📢 Ankeny Local Option Sales Tax Proposal — What You Need to Know
Ankeny voters will head to the polls on September 8 to decide whether to adopt a 1% Local Option Sales Tax (LOST). We wanted to share some information about the proposal and how it could potentially impact our community and youth sports.
🏙️ What is the Local Option Sales Tax?
If approved by voters:
• Ankeny’s sales tax would increase from 6% to 7%, which is in line with many other Central Iowa communities
• Under Iowa law, at least 50% of the revenue would be dedicated to property tax relief
• The remaining 50% would fund capital improvements, which could include streets, trails, parks, recreation facilities, public safety equipment, and other community infrastructure
🏒 What Could This Mean for Youth Sports?
Many of you may be familiar with AMHA’s involvement with the Iowa Sports Hub (ISH), a proposed project of the Ankeny Youth Sports Alliance.
If the Local Option Sales Tax is approved, it could create future opportunities for investment in recreation and community facilities.
There is no guarantee that the Iowa Sports Hub would receive funding. However, the ISH board is preparing so the project could be considered if an opportunity becomes available.

🌳 Why Does This Matter?
Ankeny continues to be one of Iowa’s fastest-growing communities. As our community grows, so does the demand for:
🏒 Youth sports and recreation
🌳 Parks and trails
🏗️ Community facilities
🚗 Roads and infrastructure
👮 Public safety resources
These investments can impact families throughout our community.
AMHA is not telling our families how to vote. Our goal is simply to provide information and raise awareness about the proposal and the potential opportunities it could create for recreation and youth sports in Ankeny.
We encourage everyone to learn more about the proposal and make the decision that is right for you and your family.
Thank you for your continued support of AMHA! 🏒
Let’s make it a great season!
