Keep your standards high when choosing a coach. ⚾
There's a big difference between a tough coach...
And a mean coach.
A coach can:
✔️ Hold players accountable
✔️ Push them to improve
✔️ Demand effort
Without:
❌ Yelling constantly
❌ Shaming players
❌ Taking the joy out of the game

Winning games is great.
But if a coach is stealing a child's love for baseball in the process, the cost is too high.
The best coaches challenge players while helping them love the game even more.

Every coach has a different style. ⚾ Some you'll like. Some you won't.
But the real question isn't:
**"Do I like this coach?" ****
It's: **"Is this coach helping my son get better?
In travel baseball, you often have the opportunity to choose your team and organization.
Choose wisely.
Look beyond personalities and focus on:
✔️ Player development
✔️ Teaching ability
✔️ Character
✔️ Long-term growth
The right coach can change a player's future.

One of the most important jobs of a coach? ⚾
Protect and grow a player's love for the game.
A great coach teaches.
A great coach corrects.
A great coach develops.
But a poor coach?
❌ Constantly yells
❌ Shames players
❌ Blames players
❌ Drains the joy from the game
Baseball is hard enough already.
The right coach challenges players while helping them love the journey.
As parents, we should be incredibly protective of anything that steals a child's love for the game.

Winning is great. ⚾ But winning alone shouldn't be the selling point.
I saw a team advertisement that basically said:
*"We're 28-1. We win tournaments. Come play for us."*
That sounds impressive...
But here's the better question: **How are the players developing?**

Because some coaches become so obsessed with winning that player development takes a back seat.

The best programs don't just produce wins.
They produce better athletes, better teammates, and better young men.
Don't get distracted by records. Look deeper.

Not every coach your child has will be great. ⚾ That’s just reality.
Now, if a coach is creating an unsafe or harmful environment, that’s different.
But sometimes it’s simply a coach you don’t love, don’t agree with, or don’t think is very good. Guess what? It’s a season, not a lifetime. Part of this journey is learning how to navigate imperfect situations, stay resilient, and keep developing anyway.
Sometimes growth happens despite the circumstances.

There is no perfect coach.⚾
Every coach has strengths.
Every coach has weaknesses.
The goal isn’t to find perfection.
The goal is to find someone who:
✔️ Cares about kids
✔️ Teaches the game
✔️ Develops players
✔️ Helps young athletes grow
If you're constantly searching for the "perfect" coach, team, or situation, you'll spend your entire journey frustrated.

One of the saddest things in youth sports? ⚾ Watching adults lose control.
A coach screaming at an umpire. A coach humiliating a player. A coach berating a team after a bad game.
Ask yourself: Is this helping kids love the game?
Youth sports should build:
✔️ Confidence
✔️ Character
✔️ Discipline
✔️ Growth
Kids are always watching how adults behave.
Let's give them something worth learning from.

Parents, college coaches are paying attention to you too. ⚾
One of the first questions they ask:
**"What are his parents like?"**
Yes, talent matters.
But coaches also want to know:
✔️ Are the parents supportive?
✔️ Are they coachable?
✔️ Do they understand the process?
✔️ Are they going to make life easier or harder?
