Some big news out of Jefferson City over the past week as two Blount Countians got the start for Carson-Newsman in its season opener with Tiffin last Thursday.

One of the two, redshirt freshman and former Alcoa Tornado Eli Graf, tacked on an achievement we've never seen before. Click over to https://blountpressrow.com and see "Doubling Down" to learn more.

Congrats, Caleb and Eli. Go Eagles!

What a game, huh?

Friday's Alcoa/Maryville epic left us breathless, one of the best games in the history of the series, no doubt. As a consequence, we spent a little more time on the video and pictures, so please accept this installment of the Monday Afternoon Quarterback, if you will.

Click over to https://blountpressrow.com and see "The Pistol Creek Walk-Off" for the video and story and "The Walk-Off in Pictures" for some of Wallace Bowden's choice shots from the contest.

Thanks to the Tornadoes and Rebels for a game we won't forget. Also, here's hoping Alcoa quarterback Thomas Manu is okay and is quickly back to action. That was scary.

Here are few highlights from Friday's jamboree at Alcoa as we await the season's start this coming weekend.

Click over to https://blountpressrow.com and see "Sam Strike" for a few big hits before you turn in. As the headline suggests, Heritage's Sam McInnis had the best of the night. It was really something. It's in the video.

Good luck to your team this season.

Reminder: The 2026 Blount County high school football jamboree is scheduled for Friday at Alcoa.

Start time is 7 p.m

Alcoa will scrimmage with William Blount in the first session, followed by the halftime skills competitions. Heritage clashes with Maryville in the night's concluding scrimmage.

It'll look a little different this year, as Eagleton and Greenback are not taking part.

It’s one of those things where it didn’t matter how long it took.

The Alcoa High girls softball team reeled off one of the great seasons ever this spring, crowning a 44-3 record with a Class 3A state championship. Family health concerns didn’t allow us to go down for the week. A hoped-for ride to the championship game then fell through.

When Lady Tornadoes won it all, we began emailing a contact at the NFHS Network in hopes of securing some footage from the title game. No matter what, there had to be a record of what they achieved on Blount Press Row. A little over a week ago, that footage arrived, and it was worth the wait.

Click over to https://blountpressrow.com and see “The Dream Team” for a video and read of one of the best sports teams Blount County has ever produced. The numbers alone are worth the time. Before we did anything else this school year, we wanted them to have their day.

Alcoa opens against Liberty Creek at the Class AAA state softball tournament on Tuesday in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Tornadoes have displayed remarkable versatility in this year's postseason run. Click over to https://blountpressrow.com and see "The Everything Store" for a recap of the dismantling of Watertown in Saturday's sectional championship.

Hit and run, homers, ace pitching, they pretty much did it all.

Update: The Alcoa/Watertown sectional championship softball game this afternoon at Dawn Marsh Field is at 3 p.m. instead of announced 1.

The Alcoa Lady Tornado softball team unleashed the full arsenal in a Region 3AAA championship game win over Soddy-Daisy earlier this week. Third baseman Grayson Burgess run ruled the Lady Trojans with a three-run shot in the Alcoa fifth.

You can check it out by clicking over to https://blountpressrow.com and having a look at "The Karate Kid."

The win moves the Lady Tornadoes into Saturday's sectional round, where they'll host Watertown at Dawn Marsh Field at 3 p.m. If you're up for a doubleheader, the Maryville Lady Rebels, the Region 1AAAA champions, host Knox West at John Sevier in a AAAA sectional at 7:30.
