Growing up I always took great pride in grooming my horse until his coat looked like a shiny penny. Still today over 30 years later I still love when the horses get a good grooming session in. I am also a sucker for an ad online but sometimes it turns out to be gold. This is the best product line I have used in a long time. No greasy feel or sliding tack. Neighked has really sped up the grooming process for great looking coats. Even at night the horses are shining.

Ok I can’t just ignore these two new babies on the farm and not announce them. They are too stinking cute. Rocky (brown and white) and Rambo (black and white) are the two newest kids to the barn. Born yesterday during the rainy weather. Safe and dry in the barn. Daisy did great and is a super mom.

A common question here on the farm is about Ethan and Alibi. People ask if this is our mare and foal. Short answer is no, they are both geldings (fixed males). Ethan is just quite large around 17 hands and Alibi is just short around 13.1 hands. They are cute standing together and could almost be twins. Now Ethan is around 22-24 years old and won’t get any taller. and Alibi is about 4 years old and may grow another inch or two but he will always be a pony. These two crack me up though while they are not mom and foal they are always near each other and are pretty good friends. And Sirius is in the background taking a nap

We hope everyone faired well in the winter storms we had roll through our area. The farm has essentially been closed for the last two weeks. Still our driveway is covered in ice. I am hopeful that today and tomorrow that the driveway will become safe to walk down. However, ice and snow don’t stop things from happening. Ask any livestock person or farmer, these winter storms make life very difficult. Fortunately we are very lucky and my hay supplier has kept us stocked with quality hay for our critters. The goats have been kept in th barn, ducks in their pen, peacocks have been in my basement , which has been an adventure. The horses have been kept when th weather was terrible but once it starting improving they have been able to stretch their legs. The hoses have finally thawed out so moving water is much easier.
Here are some photos of the past two weeks. I’m looking forward to spring.

Hay. Hay. And more hay. This has been on my mind with all this crazy weather. We had horses both inside and outside during this winter weather. All of them are warm and cozy. Yes, we provide blankets for the outside horses and shelter which I never saw the outside horses go in during this winter storm. Not once did they go under the shelter, their choise entirely. Instead they had unmelted snow on their backs on top of the blanket (a great sign that they are staying warm under their blankets and not losing heat) and their heads shoved in their free choice hay. We kept the water as ice free as possible and they chowed down on hay. Inside the horses had their normal grain and hay. We always do free choice hay (except for very special cases) and not once did the horses seem cold. Of course the pasture horses needed more hay but remember their grass is currently covered. With the prediction of more snow in the near future, more hay will be going out to the horses and goats. This weather can be very taxing on our critters but the best thing for them is keeping their belly’s working and full of high quality hay.
