There are moments that remind us why we do this - and this morning at the Assumption University Aquatic Center in Bangkok, Eithan Drake del Moro Jaurigue gave us one of those moments.
Nearly a year ago, on September 6, 2025, Wai Yan Pyne of Myanmar set the AOSI 15-year-old boys' 100m SC Breaststroke record at 1:12.57. It stood as the mark to chase - the number every young breaststroker in the region measured themselves against.
This morning, Eithan didn't just chase it. He broke it.
1:11.42.
Over a full second faster. A new AOSI Short Course record. A gold medal around his neck, and his name now etched into the history of this championship.
But behind that number is everything you don't see on the scoreboard - the late afternoon and after school trainings, the sets he pushed through when his arms were screaming to stop, the countless laps logged long before the world was watching. Records aren't broken in a single race. They're broken in the quiet, unglamorous work that comes before it - and Eithan put in that work, one stroke at a time.
To Eithan: this is your moment, and you earned every second of it. May this be the first of many records that carry your name.
To every young swimmer training in the pool right now - let this be proof of what's possible when you refuse to settle for what's already been done.
