You can visit Sagada without really seeing Sagada.

Sounds strange, but hear me out.

Most trips focus on the caves, waterfalls, viewpoints, and famous attractions. But spend a little more time here, and you start noticing something else.

🌿 Mountain farms
🐐 Animals along the trails
⛰️ Quiet roads and forests
🍷 Local food and drinks
🏡 Everyday life in the community

Mas interesting minsan yung mga bagay na hindi mo hinahanap.

These photos are just a small glimpse of the Sagada I got to experience beyond the usual tourist route.

And honestly, this slower side of the town is what stayed with me.

This photo reminds me of something I learned after spending years traveling around the Philippines.

You don't always need to find the perfect beach.

Sometimes you just end up somewhere, see the coconut trees leaning over the water, and think, “Okay, dito muna.” 😂

I've had plenty of days here where the original plan disappeared completely. A quick stop became lunch. Lunch became swimming. Swimming became waiting for sunset.

That's the Filipino way of slowing down that took me a while to understand.

Hindi kailangan laging may plano.

Sometimes you just enjoy where you are, with whoever you're with.

And honestly, those unplanned days have given me some of my favorite memories in the Philippines. 🌴💙

I came to the Philippines thinking I would learn about a new country.

Years later, I realized I was learning a different way of looking at everyday life. 🇵🇭

Kumain ka na?” isn't always just a question about food. Sometimes, it's how someone says, I care about you.

I learned that “mamaya” can mean later... but sometimes, it means we'll see. 😅

I learned to say “po” and “opo”, not because someone demanded it, but because respect is built into everyday conversations.

I learned that when someone says “sige”, it can mean yes, okay, go ahead, or... I'll think about it. 😂

And I learned that a simple “tara” can turn an ordinary afternoon into a road trip, a beach stop, or dinner with people you barely knew that morning.

After years here, I realized that Filipino culture isn't always found in big traditions or tourist attractions.

Sometimes, it's in the little things.

The extra serving of food.
The neighbor who says hello.
The friend who insists you take something home.
The random “ingat ka” before you leave.

That's probably the best souvenir a place can give you. ❤️

A day in Sagada, but not the tourist version.

Some travel days are about checking places off your list. Pero minsan, the best days are the ones where you don't really have a plan.

That’s how I spent this day in Sagada, with my local friend Chris Angway, who gave me a glimpse of the place beyond the usual tourist stops.

One of my favorite parts was watching food being prepared and seeing the simple, hands-on way locals go about their day. From there, it naturally turned into a meal and more time with the people who call Sagada home.

Walang packed itinerary. Walang hinahabol na next attraction.

Just mountains, good food, conversations, and a slower side of Sagada that you might miss when you're busy trying to see everything. 🇵🇭

Minsan, the best way to experience a place is to slow down, look around, and let the day happen.

A piece of Sagada made it all the way to Montevideo. 🇵🇭➡️🇺🇾

I didn't plan for this to become part of the story, but while traveling around Montevideo, I realized I was carrying something made back in the mountains of the Philippines.

This hand-woven bag is from Sagada, and seeing it here in Uruguay felt strangely special. Different country, different landscape, different side of the world, but a familiar piece of home right there with me.

Maybe that's one of the best things about travel. You leave home to see the world, but you don't necessarily have to leave everything behind.
