This week, a true club man reaches a peak that only two others have ever conquered. Matty Wallis will run out for his 250th game in the Te Puke Sports Premier jersey.
Since his debut in 2003, Matty has carved out a spectacular rugby career both on and off the field. His work ethic has earned 3 caps for the NZ Under 20s and 46 NPC caps across Bay of Plenty (14) and Northland (32). After playing for Kamo from 2009 to 2013, he returned to his roots in 2014, pouring his heart and soul into the Te Puke Sports club.
What followed is nothing short of legendary:
🏆 The Champion: A driving force in the 2018 Baywide Championship side, and a player/coach who lead us to glory again in 2024.
🏉 The Mentor: Giving back to the game as an assistant coach for BOP & Western BOP age groups, alongside many dedicated years coaching his daughter’s Jr Pirates teams.
🧱 The Builder: Matty’s impact off the field is literally built into the club’s foundations. He secured vital jersey and shorts sponsorships, the grafter who has kept our fields in top condition, and the workhorse who personally built the Premier changing rooms.
He didn’t just wear the jersey; he elevated what it means to be a Te Puke Sports player.
To Matty, Kate and the entire Wallis family who have sacrificed so much, we want to say thank you. Your commitment to this club has shaped its history and will inspire generations to come.
Congratulations Matty Wallis on 250 games.
