Sparring š
The way we run sparring down here at may be different to other gyms. We donāt take on the macho man mentality. I teach BOXING. Not brawling. Boxing is a skill and also known as the sweet science. If you are new to boxing you have to learn basic fundamentals of the sport and be capable to defend yourself which you will learn in Tuesday Tech Sparring Class. The progression from there is Saturday Sparring where things are still controlled but you can practice your skills and put them to the test.
Now, if you are in a gym where youāre a getting constantly battered or the coach is throwing you in there with someone who is significantly more experienced and is also not holding back⦠you should probably leave. Itās not normal to be having constant headaches after sparring. If offence is prioritised over defence (basically meaning you are taking too many shots to get one back) then thatās not boxing. Itās about hitting and not getting hit. Most people have to go to their day jobs the next day and having a concussion isnāt ideal. When I take people to the ring I need to know they can defend themselves and look after themselves. Jumping in the ring is earned and not given and requires a skill set, level of competency and fitness. Sparring should not be an all our war or about survival especially at corporate level š¤¦āāļø
You will get good coaching down here and you will not be a sacrificial lamb in the gym. Boxing is full of muppets and considered the Wild West at times but very careful who you listen to cause it may be detrimental to your safety, health and well being.
