At Toi Ohomai Aquatic Centre, Level 4 swimmers and above have room to stretch out, sharpen their technique and turn, "I can swim," into, "Watch me go."
Our 25 metre programme includes advanced lessons, squad pathways and adult swimming, because progress does not stop when you reach the other end.
Term 4 runs from Monday 12 October to Friday 18 December 2026.

Enrolments now open! Our warm 32°C pool at 14th Avenue takes the chill out of learning to swim, giving babies and children through to Level 4 a comfortable place to practise, progress and surprise themselves.
One week it is a splash. The next it is a stroke. Before long, they are swimming towards you with the biggest grin in the pool.
Term 4 runs from Monday 12 October to Friday 18 December 2026. Lessons are $22 each, charged per term.

Every minute of our lessons has a purpose.

Our instructors work on building water confidence, developing skills, improving technique and helping swimmers become safer and more independent in the water.

While it might look like games and fun (and it is!), every activity is carefully planned to help children learn and progress.

Behind every lesson is a goal — and lots of encouragement along the way. 💙

One of the best parts of what we do is seeing the journey each swimmer goes on — from their first nervous steps into the water to becoming confident and independent swimmers.

Swim Instructor – Immediate Start

Summer lessons are booking up and we are in need of more Instructors. Tauranga Swim School, based at our 14th Avenue Pool and the Toi Ohomai Windermere Aquatic Centre, is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Swim Instructor to join our amazing team.

About the role

As a Swim Instructor, your responsibilities will include:

Teaching swimming and water-safety skills to children of different ages and abilities
Creating a safe, welcoming and fun learning environment
Encouraging swimmers and helping them build confidence in the water
Preparing equipment and keeping the pool area clean and tidy
Communicating effectively with children, parents and team members
Being flexible, reliable and passionate about swimming
Working across both our 14th Avenue and Toi Ohomai locations when required

Previous swim-teaching experience is an advantage but is not essential—we’ll provide training to the right candidate.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicant will:

Be confident and capable in the water
Enjoy working with children
Be patient, positive and encouraging
Have strong communication and people skills
Be punctual, dependable and able to work well within a team
Be available for an immediate start
Be a New Zealand resident or hold a valid visa providing the legal right to work in New Zealand
Be willing to complete the required police-vetting and safety checks

What we offer:

- Free swimming lessons for one of your children

Hours:

- Part-time, with a minimum of five hours per week
- Hours are predominantly between 2:30pm and 7pm on weekdays, with Saturday shifts also available
- Shifts may also be available during school hours

These programmes are a great way for swimmers to spend extra time in the water, build confidence and make progress over a short period of time.

Whether your child is working on water confidence, independence or improving their swimming skills, our Holiday Intensives provide valuable extra practice.

One of the key messages we teach during Water Safety Week is what to do if you unexpectedly fall into water.

Learning to stop, stay calm and float gives children time to think and make safer choices.

Water safety isn’t about being scared of the water — it’s about being confident, prepared and knowing what to do.

These are skills that can last a lifetime. 💙

This week our swimmers will be focusing on some of the most important skills they will learn — how to stay safe in and around water.

Throughout the week we will be practising skills such as floating, safe entries and exits, moving to safety and building confidence if something unexpected happens.

Swimming is more than learning strokes. It is about giving children skills and confidence that can help keep them safe for life.

We can’t wait to see our swimmers building these important skills this week. 💙
