Congratulations to our Taranaki Bowlers who sneaked home by a single game to reverse last year's result against Waikato winning 71 points to 69 and claiming the Ron Buchan Plate.
A standout was young coastal bowler Nathan Goodin who won 5 from 5 games, a result Buchan would have been pleased with, like Nathan, Buchan took the game up as a teenager.
Buchan played Bowls out of Opunake Club winning the Taranaki Champion of Champion Singles in 1935.
Among many remarkable things Buchan achieved in Bowls, he first played in the Taranaki Open in 1933 and last played in 2001.
Despite the Taranaki senior women going down 20 points to 10, Cindy Gray also did herself proud winning four of the five games she featured in.
In the Junior Womens Ange DeBique managed a 50% strike rate.

At Opunake Bowling Club we offer new players the following memberships.
First year Bowler $75.00 gives you all the privileges of Full membership.
Limited Bowler $70.00 join up, give bowls a go, playing within the boundaries of our Club.

Flat Shoes are a requirement. Strictly no heels.
We do have some old sets of bowls as well as a couple of sets of newer bowls that are for Club use.

Taranaki Women took on Whanganui in a pre-season fixture this weekend. A good weekend with the Senior and Junior sides coming away with a win and opportunity to play different combinations. Our first fixture of the season starts early September against Waikato.

A huge thank you to the Toi Foundation for the capital funding received to help with the repairs needed to our King Street building.
With a leaking roof now replaced and the soffit finish done, it has brought new life back to this area.
