🛼🔥 TRY ROLLER DERBY DAY IS COMING! 🔥🛼

Have you ever wanted to try Roller Derby? Now is your chance!

Coming this September/October, we're holding a Try Roller Derby Skating Day for young people aged 10–17 years. Whether you're an experienced skater or have never put on a pair of skates before, everyone is welcome!

✅ All genders welcome
✅ No experience needed
✅ Learn from experienced coaches
✅ Meet new friends
✅ Have fun while building confidence and skills

We have the coaches, the knowledge, and the equipment to help you get started. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and sense of adventure!

If you enjoy the day, you'll have the opportunity to sign up and begin your Roller Derby journey. Become part of our awesome junior team, travel to games and events, develop your skating skills, and make lifelong friendships on and off the track.

🛼🔥 GnR Juniors Training Tonight Was ON FIRE! 🔥🛼

What an awesome night of training! 💪✨ We were absolutely rocking it tonight with a huge coaching crew helping our skaters level up and push their boundaries! 🚀

A massive thank you to our coaches:

⭐ Tower
⭐ Kay'Os
⭐ Phearless
⭐ Misty

And a special shout-out to our amazing parent helpers too! ❤️👏

Tonight's groups were:
🛼 Morpheus working with our Level 0–1 skaters
🛼 Fraser leading our Level 1 skaters
🛼 Tower challenging our Level 2 skaters
🛼 Kay'Os and Misty pushing our Level 3 skaters to new heights

Everyone worked incredibly hard, building skills, confidence, and becoming stronger derby skaters every week! 💥💯 The determination, teamwork, and positive attitudes on display were fantastic to see. 🤩

🛼🔥 WHAT A FANTASTIC NIGHT OF JUNIOR ROLLER DERBY TRAINING! 🔥🛼

A huge thank you to our amazing coaches Tower and Morpheus, who led tonight's session, with Fraser and Misty joining in later to help keep the fun rolling! ❤️👏

We kicked things off with a warm-up skate around the track, practising a variety of skating skills before gathering together for our team introductions and GnR team chant! 📣💙 We are so excited to see so many new faces joining our junior derby family! 🥰

Then it was GAME TIME! 🎉🎮

Our skaters zoomed around the track tackling:
🚦 Traffic Lights
🌉 Low Bridge
🏎️ 100km/h
🚗 50km/h
🔄 Reversing

After a quick drinks break 💧, it was time for a race to collect coloured cones! 🏁🔴🟡🔵🟢

Next up was an action-packed relay race featuring:
🌀 Weaving through cones
🔄 Rounding a marker cone
⭐ Putting on the Star helmet cover
🦘 Jumping or stepping over cones
🦺 Putting on a coloured team bib
🤝 Tagging teammates before they could take off!

There were plenty of laughs, smiles, teamwork and friendly competition throughout the night! 😁💪

To finish the session, we split into groups:
⭐ Our Level 2 & 3 skaters worked on blocking and jamming skills.
⭐ Our beginner skaters focused on cone weaving and one-foot skating.

We wrapped up with a team get-together, our GnR team chant 📣, and then it was time to gear down after another awesome night on wheels! 🛼❤️

We are so proud of the effort, enthusiasm and improvement shown by every skater tonight. 🌟

🛼💥 What an AWESOME night of Junior Roller Derby training tonight!! 💥🛼

We had 🔥 FIVE amazing coaches 🔥 running THREE different training groups tonight, making sure every skater from first timers right through to advanced skaters got the support and coaching they needed! 🙌💪

⭐ Entry Level / First Time Skaters
Led by Morpheus 👏
Our new skaters were learning all the important foundations including:
💥 Safe falling techniques
🦵 Single knee falls
🦵🦵 Double knee falls
🙌 Double knee with forearms
➡️ Strides and pushing off edges
🫧 Forward & backward bubbles
🫧🫧 Double & triple bubbles
🔺 As & Vs for direction control
⚖️ Holding strong balance and positioning using skate edges

⭐ Level 1s & Skaters Working Towards Level 2
Led by Fraser & Tower 🔥
Tonight’s focus included:
👣 Happy feet & gliding
🛑 T-stops
➰ Weaving and movement control

⭐ Level 3 Advanced Training
Led by KayOs & Phearless 💪🔥
These skaters were working HARD tonight with:
↔️ Laterals
🧱 One-on-one blocking
🌪️ Tornado blocking (changing positions while maintaining contact)
🏁 Finishing with an epic 4-wall vs 1 jammer scrimmage!

And to finish the night off… we all jumped on together for a fun free skate around the track 🛼🎉💨

We LOVE seeing new faces, growing confidence, learning new skills and having fun together ❤️

💜 What an incredible weekend for NZJRDA 💜

We are finishing this weekend feeling so proud, grateful, exhausted, and inspired after our very first NZJRDA Bootcamp 🇳🇿🛼

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this weekend possible.

To the amazing crew at Dead End Derby Christchurch thank you for all your support across the weekend and for helping create such an awesome game environment. Your support for junior derby means so much 💜

To all of the referees, NSOs, officials, volunteers, and helpers, thank you for giving up your time, energy, and expertise to support our skaters. Junior derby simply could not happen without you all 🖤🦓

Huge thanks to Lil' Adelaide Rollers for travelling over to Aotearoa, sharing your knowledge, drills, gameplay, and for being such incredible role models on and off the track. We loved having you here and cannot wait to skate with you again 🔥

To all of the skaters and whānau who travelled from around the country to be part of this weekend, thank you. Your support, commitment, energy, and willingness to jump in helped make this whole event possible. Seeing skaters from across Aotearoa come together, support each other, learn, challenge themselves, and build connections was honestly something really special 💜🇳🇿

And finally, thank you to the NZJRDA coaches who worked so hard behind the scenes to organise and run the very first NZJRDA Bootcamp. The amount of work, planning, care, and passion that went into this weekend was huge, and it was amazing seeing it all come together ✨

DAY ONE OF NZJRDA BOOTCAMP = DONE

What an absolutely awesome day of junior roller derby 🛼🇳🇿

A huge thank you to the amazing Lil Adelaide Rollers for joining us, sharing some of your drills, knowledge, and skating with our juniors. It was so special to have you here and our skaters loved learning alongside you all 💜 Many new connections were made.

We also want to give the biggest shoutout to every single junior skater who travelled from across Aotearoa to be part of this weekend. Seeing skaters from all around the country come together, support each other, train together, and build connections was something really special.

Today also saw many of these skaters step onto the track for their very first Level 3 game and for most, their FIRST EVER roller derby game full stop 🤯🔥 That is HUGE.

Apart from AlarmHer, Glitter Bomb, Whiskers, Ink Spill, and Ghost Pepper, every other skater on the Invitational Team list was experiencing this level of game play for the very first time. That takes courage, determination, and a whole lot of heart.

Did Lil Adelaide Rollers give us a tough game? Absolutely 😅
But honestly, we could not be prouder of how these juniors showed up. They kept pushing, kept learning, kept communicating, and never stopped trying. That’s what development derby is all about.

The future of junior derby in Aotearoa is looking incredibly bright 💜🇳🇿

🌟 HUGE NEWS FROM THE GnRs! 🌟❤️🛼

We are incredibly proud to announce that our two GnRs juniors who travelled down to Christchurch this weekend for junior roller derby training have been selected to play for the 🇳🇿 New Zealand Invitational Junior Team 🇳🇿 against the 🇦🇺 Australian Junior Team 🇦🇺 🤯🔥

What an absolutely fantastic achievement and opportunity for these talented young skaters! 💪✨ All the hard work, dedication, training, and passion they put into roller derby is shining through 🛼❤️

We wish them both the very best for the game — skate hard, have fun, learn lots, make amazing memories, and enjoy every second of this incredible experience! 🎉👏💥
