The inaugural Amazing Race Waikato is coming soon!

Parafed Waikato, Halberg, and Special Olympics, alongside our incredible delivery partners, are excited to bring the first of what we hope will become many Amazing Race events across the Waikato.

Get ready for a day filled with fun, laughter, friendship, adventure, and discovery. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Amazing Race course, enjoy the fantastic Magical Bridge Playground, and create lasting memories with friends, whānau, and the wider community.

Having you join us will make this event even more special.

Parafed Waikato were proud to host the 2026 Interconnected Care NZ Low Point National Championships.

Over the weekend of 17-18th October, the Te Awamutu Events Centre was alive with the crash and bash of low point wheelchair rugby action!

Four teams from across Aotearoa — Bay of Plenty/Waikato, Lower North Island Misfits, Auckland Rhinos, and Canterbury Chargers — battled it out in an epic display of skill and teamwork.

The tournament had great support from a range of sponsors, and one of the weekend highlights was seeing some of them jump in wheelchairs themselves for a fun lunchtime “bash around” on court!

The final came down to an absolute battle between WAIBOP and Auckland, with Auckland having the skills and strength to take the win 29-22.

The LNI Misfits placed third, followed by the Canterbury Chargers in fourth.

What made the weekend truly special was the wheelchair rugby community spirit — sponsors, timekeepers, referees, supporters, caregivers, and players all pitched in to make it the most enjoyable tournament of the season.

Here are a few snaps from yesterday’s Sports on Courts day — and what an awesome day it was! 🤩

We had an incredible turnout, with so many people coming along to have a go and make the most of the nine different adaptive sports on offer. From trying something new to catching up with friends, there was plenty of action, plenty of laughs and plenty of people getting stuck in!

A huge thank you to all of our amazing sports deliverers who came along to showcase their sports, share their knowledge and give our community the opportunity to have a go.

🏀 What a weekend for Waikato!

A huge congratulations to our three Waikato wheelchair basketball teams who travelled to Christchurch over the weekend for WBNZ Nationals – Round 3!

There was plenty to celebrate, with our Waikato 2nd Division team taking out the win and bringing home the shield! 🏆

And the success didn’t stop there…

👏 Tarly was named Female Player of the Year
👏 Jesse was named 1st Division Defensive Player of the Year
👏 Tarly, Jesse and Sage were all selected for their respective Division Tournament Teams ⭐

A fantastic recognition of the talent, commitment and hard work within our Waikato wheelchair basketball community.

A special shout-out to coach Maioro for his leadership, encouragement and commitment to our teams throughout the season. 🙌

And of course, a massive congratulations to all our players, coaches, supporters and whānau who helped make the weekend such a success.

🎳 Friday night fun with Parafed Waikato Youth Group! 🎳

What better way to spend a Friday night in the school holidays than with tenpin bowling, plenty of laughs and a bit of friendly competition! 😄🎳

It was awesome to have our Youth Group kids and their families come along for a fun-filled evening together. There were plenty of strikes, a few gutter balls 😂 and lots of smiles along the way!

We love being able to provide opportunities for our young people to get together, have fun, try something new and enjoy time with their whānau and friends.
