WHAT A DAY!

Our Gisborne Grassroots Rugby League Season Opening Tournament was a massive success!

This is only our 3rd year but we are blown away by the incredible numbers that made today our biggest opening yet:
• 11 clubs
• 50 teams
• 650+ participants
• 5-person sub-committee (The small but mighty team that made this all possible!)

THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY
• To our Whānau: Thank you for giving your kids the opportunity to play. Shout out to all the "Whānau Uber Drivers" getting everyone to training and games!
• To our Coaches & Managers: Thank you for donating your time and ensuring our kids have strong leaders to guide them.
• To all supporters: Your positive energy on the sidelines makes all the difference for our tamariki!

SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS
• NZRL: Huge thanks to Lisa and Simon for coming down to Gizzy to support our kaupapa and for the awesome giveaways. How good are those boots!!
• Nathan from Tīpene: Thank you for taking the time to connect with our whānau today.
• Vendors & Entertainment: Thank you to the kai vendors for keeping us fed, and Bubble Wrap Fun for the awesome bouncy castles! Our speaker and microphone setup - massive!

GISBORNE GRASSROOTS RUGBY LEAGUE OPENING TOURNAMENT

The countdown is on! Join us as we kick off the 2026 Gisborne Grassroots Rugby League season with our Opening Tournament.

📅 Saturday 1st August
📍 Barry Park
🕣 Opening Karakia – 8:30 AM

It's set to be a fantastic day of rugby league for our tamariki!

A few reminders:
🏉 Boots and mouthguards are compulsory for all players.
💧 Bring plenty of water, warm clothing and snacks to keep our tamariki fueled throughout the day.
👏 Please support all players, coaches and referees by creating a positive sideline environment.

🚚 KAI CARTS WANTED! 🍔🍟

We are currently on the hunt for a couple of food trucks/kai carts to join us for the day and keep our whānau fed.

📢 Reminder: No Player Dispensations for 2026 Grassroots Rugby League 📢

A friendly reminder to all our players, parents, and whānau that there are NO player dispensations in Gisborne Grassroots Rugby League.

These age group rules were made clear to all club delegates at the beginning of the season, and all clubs have been provided with the information.

Please check the age groups on the poster below to ensure your tamariki are registered in the correct grade.

If you have any questions, your first point of contact should be your club delegate, team coach, or team manager, as they have all been provided with the eligibility information.

If there's still any uncertainty after speaking with them, feel free to flick us a message and we'll be happy to help.

Tairāwhiti District Rugby League is officially seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for Coaches and Managers for our Junior Representative Teams.

🏆 Teams/Grades:
- Under 10s
- Under 11s
- Under 12s

👥 Positions Required per Team:
-Two Coaches
-One Manager

📅 Key Dates to Note:

EOI Closes: Sunday, July 5th
Team Trials: Sunday, July 19th

We are stoked to see so many keen players signing up for the upcoming grassroots rugby league season. 🏉⚡

To help your club delegates process your registration quickly, please keep these two important reminders in mind:

* Child's ID Required: Upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport. Do not upload your own parent/caregiver ID - we don't need to see parents driver licenses & 18+ cards 🫣😂

* Profile Photo: Photos must be a clear, front-facing headshot (like a passport mugshot). Please avoid full-body shots, filters, or photos where half the face is cut off/blurry etc. 📸

We can't wait to see everyone hit the field. Let's make this an incredible season!
