Scared of taking punches? Here’s how to minimise the pain and maximise the gain.
New technique drops today, we’re drilling lean back to defend, then counter, all week in Kick Start and Intermediate.
Lean back only, then lean back with a counter punch, then step back with a counter kick.
The detail most people get wrong when they’re covering up: press the fleshy part of the glove against your forehead, elbows bent so your forearms curve in, that stops the unpadded part of the glove catching your face. Chin down too, so any impact lands on your forehead, not your jaw. Skip this and yeah, it hurts, you can walk out with a black eye off a partner who wasn’t even hitting hard.
Practice on pads all week, then Saturday and Tuesday, take it into Ring Craft and use it live.
Give it 100%, you’ll walk out 1% better.
In Intermediate? You’re cleared to join in. Keen but not there yet? Talk to us, we’ll tell you how close you are.
