Mark your calendars! We are starting Auckland Casual Chess Wednesday nights on September 9. This will be a weekly, beginner-friendly, adult-only chess night where you can come to learn the game or enjoy a few casual games with friends.

No pressure of the Monday night tournaments, and no embarrassment of losing to a toddler!

Some might ask: what happens to Adult Improvers Tuesday nights? Don't worry -- they will continue as usual, focusing on instruction, solving puzzles, learning positional strategies, and reviewing Monday night games with our coach. Tuesday sessions can be intellectually demanding at times, so if you just want to play and socialise, come on a Wednesday! Our volunteers will answer your questions, play casual games, and walk you through why a game was won or lost.

Wednesday night runs from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM -- feel free to drop in or leave at any time in between.

P.S. We have plenty of parking space.

Mark your calendars: Sunday, 14th of June 2026. Auckland Chess Centre Rapid. Online registration: https://newzealandchess.nz/auckland-rapid-14june-2026/

Auckland Chess Centre Rapid 14th June 2026 is a single day 6 round rapid chess tournament that is open to all players. Games are played using the normal New Zealand rapid time control of 25 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move. While the tournament is unrated, it features a prize fund to reward players for their effort. This makes the event ideal for players who wish to play more games under such a time control to prepare for higher level rapid tournaments or the New Zealand Interschools National Finals.
