🔥 Eén bericht op je Garmin kan je hele gran fondo veranderen.

Terwijl de meeste renners volledig op gevoel rijden, wist ik tijdens meerdere wedstrijden exact hoeveelste ik lag, wie ik nog kon pakken en hoeveel seconden ik moest goedmaken.

Niet dankzij een ploegwagen.
Maar dankzij live koersinformatie van thuis.

Tijdens GF Vosges, Medio Tejo en zelfs mijn allereerste UCI Gran Fondo bleek die informatie goud waard. Soms was één extra versnelling genoeg voor een kwalificatieplek. Soms maakte het verschil tussen lossen… of nog één keer alles geven.

Juist op de momenten dat je eigenlijk wilt opgeven, kan een simpel berichtje ineens nieuwe energie geven.

🔥 One message on your Garmin can completely change your gran fondo.

While most riders race purely on instinct, I knew exactly where I was in the standings during multiple events, who I could still catch and how many seconds I needed to gain.

Not because of a team car.
But thanks to live race updates from home.

During GF Vosges, Medio Tejo and even my very first UCI Gran Fondo, that information became a huge advantage. Sometimes one extra effort meant the difference between qualifying or missing out.

And in those moments where you feel empty, a simple message can suddenly unlock another level.

Sommige granfondo’s vergeet je na een week. Deze blijft in je hoofd zitten.

GFNY Villard-de-Lans voelde als een aaneenschakeling van hoogtepunten. Smalle wegen langs rotswanden. Eindeloze afdalingen door kloven. Lange beklimmingen die blijven lopen zonder ooit echt vriendelijk te worden.

En dan die Combe Laval…

Alsof je letterlijk door een ansichtkaart fietst.

Met ruim 160 kilometer, stevige hoogtemeters en temperaturen richting de 30 graden werd het uiteindelijk ook gewoon een dag van overleven. Maar precies dat maakt deze tocht zo bijzonder.

De Vercors verraste op alle fronten.

De omgeving van Bassano del Grappa is alles wat je zoekt in een Italiaanse fietsbestemming.

Lange rustige beklimmingen.
Perfect asfalt.
Verborgen gravelstroken langs felblauwe meren.
En overal dat uitzicht waardoor je automatisch langzamer gaat rijden.

Monte Grappa blijft natuurlijk de grote naam. Maar juist de onbekendere wegen richting Passo del Compet en Cima di Campo maken deze regio zo bijzonder.

Meer dan 70 kilometer fietsen met 1500 hoogtemeters voelde hier nog steeds te kort.

Bassano zelf maakt het compleet met goed eten, gezellige pleinen en een sfeer die je na elke rit nog even buiten houdt.
