Some were working, some were studying, while others had stepped away from competitive volleyball.

But when Sarawak needed them, they answered the call.

The result was a national title as Sarawak's women's team emerged champions at the 66th Malaysia National Open Volleyball Championship in Johor Bahru, with Stephanie Law named Best Libero and Joan Ling Yu Yian earning both MVP and Best Outside Hitter honours.

“Individual awards are nice, but seeing our team stand together on the top of the podium is what makes me happiest,” said Law, who described the championship as a triumph built on unity, sacrifice and pride in representing Sarawak.

Scientists explain that frequent consumption of sweetened foods and drinks may affect the body’s stress response and increase vulnerability to symptoms of depression and anxiety. The research supports growing global recommendations to limit added sugar intake, emphasizing that balanced nutrition plays an important role not only in metabolic health but also in maintaining emotional resilience and psychological wellbeing.
