Malta Model Boat Association

The Malta Model Boat Association was formed in 1994 to promote the sport of remote controlled yacht racing in Malta.

The club organises regattas for International One Meter class boats and also Dragon Force RG65 class boats. MMBA is the only model yachting association in Malta. We organise radio controlled yacht races throughout the year with IOM class model yachts.

🇲🇹 MALTA IOM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2027 — RACING FORMAT ANNOUNCED ⛵

As preparations continue for the Malta IOM National Championships 2027, the Malta Model Boat Association is pleased to announce the racing format for the three-day event.

To ensure a competitive, efficient and enjoyable championship, entries will be limited to a maximum of 40 skippers, with racing conducted in no more than two fleets.

🏁 SHRS — Simple Heat Racing System

The championship will use the SHRS – Simple Heat Racing System for Radio Sailing, with the three days divided into Qualifying and Finals.

Friday 9 & Saturday 10 April — QUALIFYING SERIES
The first two days will be dedicated to qualifying racing under SHRS, establishing the fleet allocation for the final stage of the championship.

Sunday 11 April — FINALS SERIES
The final day will be dedicated entirely to the Finals, when competitors will race in their respective final fleets to determine the overall championship results.

This format has been selected to provide competitors with plenty of meaningful racing across all three days, while keeping the championship straightforward, competitive and manageable.

The championship will be limited to:

40 SKIPPERS • MAXIMUM TWO FLEETS • THREE DAYS OF RACING

A limited number of places will also be available to international skippers, giving overseas competitors the opportunity to race alongside Malta's IOM fleet.

And don't forget, the Malta championship takes place the weekend immediately following the renowned Rogoznica Cup in Croatia, creating a great opportunity for international IOM skippers to enjoy two major events on consecutive weekends.

The Malta Model Boat Association (MMBA) is delighted to announce the Malta IOM National Championships 2027, taking place from 9–11 April 2027.

Three days of exciting International One Metre racing await in the beautiful waters of Malta, bringing together the country's top IOM skippers for one of the highlights of the national sailing calendar.

🌍 International Entries Welcome

For the 2027 edition, we are pleased to open the event to a limited number of foreign skippers, offering competitors from overseas the opportunity to experience racing in Malta while competing alongside the local fleet.

📅 Perfectly Timed for Foreign Competitors

The championship has been scheduled the weekend immediately following the renowned Rogoznica Cup in Croatia, making it an ideal opportunity for international sailors to enjoy two IOM events on consecutive weekends with a single trip.
