TVMsport speaks to some of our athletes following an exciting day of competition. Congratulations to everyone involved, and especially to Matteo on his record-breaking performance in the U16 800m.

Outstanding performances at the track yesterday!

Matteo took part in the U16 800m, claiming 1st place and once again rewriting the record books. He broke the Maltese U16 National Record and also set a new EAP Record with an impressive time of 1:59.30.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Matteo ran the race largely on his own, without anyone pushing the pace, making the performance an even greater feat.

Liam also delivered an excellent run in the 800m, clocking 2:25.64, a huge 7-second personal best over the distance. His hard work and commitment in training are clearly paying off.

Congratulations to both athletes on their fantastic performances and continued progress.

A special thank you also goes to all the organisers, officials, volunteers, and supporters for the superb organisation and the great atmosphere at the track, which made the event such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Today at the Corsa Beat Your PB – Double Trouble event in Ta’ Xbiex, Liam delivered a superb performance in the highly competitive 1km race for the 13–15 age category, taking 1st place and smashing his personal best with a fantastic time of 3:12.

This result is no accident. It is the outcome of disciplined training, patience, and a commitment to improving one day at a time.

Well done Liam. The journey is just beginning, and there is much more to come.

If you are a young athlete who is serious about middle-distance running and serious about achieving ambitious goals, our group is always open to athletes willing to commit to the process. Success is not guaranteed by talent alone—it comes from discipline, consistency, and the right guidance. 🚀

Challenge Meeting 6 – Progress Comes in Different Forms

Today two Speedworks athletes showed that improvement isn't always found where you expect it.

Alexander, a thrower, was signed up for his first-ever 100m race after months of working on speed and power to support his throwing events. 100m – 12.65 & Shot Put – 10.44m

Not bad for someone who usually throws things instead of chasing the finish line! 😄

Meanwhile, Maria produced an outstanding run in the 1500m, taking over 12 seconds off her personal best. 1500m – 5:05.79 PB

Today's result was built on patience, discipline, and excellent ex*****on of the race plan. Pace discipline was the key.

As we often tell the athletes: talent gets attention, but consistency gets results.

Keep trusting the process—there is still plenty more to come.

Everyone wants to run faster, jump further or throw farther.

The difference is rarely motivation.

Motivation comes and goes.

Progress comes from the standards you set every day:

• Showing up to training
• Executing the session properly
• Taking recovery seriously
• Being disciplined when nobody is watching

It was incredible to watch athletes from different disciplines come together as one team — throwers, jumpers, sprinters, and middle-distance runners all fighting for each other and producing a fantastic run full of energy, excitement, and team spirit.

U16 & U14 National Championships – DAY 1 🇲🇹

A very strong first day for the Speedworks athletes, with personal bests, medals, strong performances and great fighting spirit shown across all events. Proud of every athlete that stepped on the track and field today.

U14 RESULTS
100m
• Melly – 13.81 PB – 6th
• Liam S – 13.46 PB – 6th

1000m
• Katarina – 3:34.47 SB – 4th
• Liam S – 3:04.27 PB – 2nd 🥈

Special mention to Liam S who improved by 15 seconds in the 1000m. That is not a small improvement — it is the result of commitment, consistency and hard work in training. Well deserved.

U16 RESULTS
100m
• Matteo – 12.09 PB – 3rd 🥉
• Liam V – 12.21 – 5th
• Luke – 13.29

Matteo’s first ever 100m race and a very encouraging performance. Developing speed is essential for progression in middle distance events and today showed very positive signs for the future.

Unfortunately, Liam lost rhythm and fell in the last metres of the
race. Tough moments also build athletes.

• Matteo – 53.69 – 1st 🥇

• Elizabeth – 22.69 – 2nd 🥈
• Victoria – 21.80 PB – 3rd 🥉

The throwers continue to improve competition after competition under the mentorship and guidance of Coach Jenny. The hard work being done behind the scenes is clearly showing.

Matteo Gauci delivered a remarkable performance as he broke the U16 national record in the 800m, clocking an outstanding 1:59.88 while finishing second overall in a highly competitive field.
