Wait what? A BRIGHT ORANGE shark just cruised past divers in Costa Rica
Seriously, it looks like someone dipped a regular shark in gold paint. But nope, this is 100% real. Scientists confirmed it’s not a trick of the sunlight or camera filters. This shark is naturally orange thanks to a wild combo of genetic traits called xanthism and partial albinism. Basically she’s rocking yellow-gold tones AND pale eyes like a tiny ocean superhero.
And get this, this exact mix has never been seen in a shark before. Not in labs. Not in nature documentaries. Not in your wildest dreams. At about two meters long she’s a legit “what is even happening” moment for anyone lucky enough to see her.
Xanthism is like the opposite of albinism. Instead of losing all color, she gets golden, yellow vibes. Add a dash of albinism and boom, pale eyes that make her look like a mystical sea creature straight out of a fantasy movie. Nature really does like to flex sometimes.
Divers near Tortuguero are still buzzing about her. Imagine swimming and suddenly spotting an orange shark gliding past like it’s the main character in Finding Nemo 2. Except this is 100% real and probably more confusing for your brain.
