5-peaaaaaaaaat : Kabras Sugar Rugby 14-8 KCB

History was written once again at the Kakamega Showground as we battled past a determined KCB Rugby side 14-8 to secure a historic fifth consecutive Kenya Cup title.

In front of a charged home crowd, we delivered another statement of resilience, grit and dominance to extend our unbeaten Kenya Cup run to 54 matches dating back to 2022.

The victory saw us become the first side in 42 years to complete a Kenya Cup five-peat, joining Kenyan rugby greats Nondies and Impala in one of the competition’s most exclusive circles.

But this was far from straightforward.

Rain poured heavily before kickoff, turning the surface into a muddy battlefield where every tackle, carry and kick demanded precision and courage. From the opening whistle, the contest carried the intensity expected of a championship final.

KCB struck first after Brian Wahinya slotted over a penalty to hand the visitors an early 3-0 lead in a half dominated by physical exchanges and handling errors caused by the slippery conditions.

We pushed relentlessly for a breakthrough, testing KCB through the forwards and from the scrum, but the bankers’ defence held firm during a tense opening period.

The game also forced early adjustments on our side as Dukisa, Tanga and Wekesa were introduced into the battle before halftime.

Trailing 3-0 at the break, the response in the second half reflected the character that has defined this squad throughout its remarkable run.

Even after Jeason Misoga was forced off following a head injury, belief never faded.

Ntabeni Dukisa, making his first appearance of the season, stepped into the spotlight in unforgettable fashion. Calm under pressure, he first levelled matters with a penalty before adding another to give us our first lead of the afternoon.

KCB responded immediately after Ephraim Odour was shown a yellow card during a scrum sequence deep inside our territory. Sensing opportunity, the visitors spread play wide before Festus Shiasi crossed over in the corner for a crucial try.

The missed conversion, however, proved massive.

With the final hanging in the balance, Dukisa once again delivered, calmly slotting over another penalty to cut the deficit to a single point and set up a dramatic finale.

Then came the moment that defined the championship.

As the clock wound down and tension gripped the packed Kakamega Showground, our forwards produced one final surge. Driving with purpose from a rolling maul, Hillary Odhiambo powered over the line for the decisive try that sent the home crowd into celebration.

Although the conversion missed the target, the lead was enough.

What followed was a display of composure worthy of champions. We absorbed late pressure, defended with everything and held firm until the final whistle confirmed another unforgettable triumph.

Five titles in a row.
Fifty-four matches unbeaten.
A dynasty carved into Kenyan rugby history.
