1st Butterfield Jersey Regatta

Dear All

Welcome to the combined Royal Channel Islands YC, St Helier YC and St Catherine's SC Butterfield Jersey Regatta, the 28th edition of this flagship event being held in St Aubin’s Bay and adjacent coastal waters from 4th to 6th September.

A special welcome and thanks go to Butterfield Bank in their first year as our title sponsor.

I am pleased to say that preparations are fully on track for what we anticipate will be a truly enjoyable and rewarding time for everyone, local and visiting sailors, alike. This is an open event with three days’ racing for cruiser/racer, sportsboat, dayboat, dinghy and sport catamaran classes.

The Regatta opens on Thursday 3rd September with a welcoming reception and skippers’ briefing at St Helier YC. The first race for the cruiser/racer and sportsboat classes gets underway Friday morning with a coastal race while the ‘small boats’ programme follows in the beautiful natural area of St Aubin’s Bay in the afternoon. Note that Friday’s programme is ‘standalone’ with its own prizes and trophies. Saturday and Sunday have prizes and trophies for each day for all classes with both days counting for the overall ‘Best Boat in Class’ trophies.

We are very pleased, also, to include the GBR IRC Channel Islands Championship, kindly supported by North Sails, in the Saturday and Sunday cruiser/racer programme. This always shows competitive sailing at its best with local and visiting boats vying for this top award in Channel Islands sailing.

Needless to say, this ‘jamboree’ is not only about racing, it is a fun event that gives everyone plenty of opportunity to take part and, after each day is done, to unwind and enjoy the full social programme that rounds off each day’s racing. Note that all hospitality, except the Regatta Party held at the Royal Channel Islands YC on Saturday, is included in the entry fee including complimentary suppers on Friday and at Sunday’s prize-giving.

We are most grateful to Jersey Marinas’ for their ongoing support in providing complimentary berthing for visiting boats. Those planning to join us from afar should contact them on https://www.ports.je/jerseymarinas/.

The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions are available through www.jerseyregatta.com. Please note, especially, that ‘early bird’ fees apply up to and including Friday 21st August. Standard entry fees then apply until Tuesday 1st September when entries close. We cordially invite you to sign up now!

Should you need any further information, please contact the Regatta Office either by e-mailing [email protected] or by telephoning +44 (0) 1534 732229.

On behalf of all at the Butterfield Jersey Regatta, I wish you fair winds, calm seas and great sailing. We look forward to seeing you at the Regatta.

The ‘OneSails Next Generation Class’ is an exciting, new category being introduced in conjunction with OneSails GBR for the 181st Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week - created to encourage more young adults into competitive sailing after data from the Royal Yachting Association highlighted a decline in participation among 18–29 year olds.

Any racing yacht entered in the Sailing Regatta that has at least one crew member aged 18–29 is automatically eligible for the Next Generation Class, rewarding teams that actively include younger sailors and also helping create a pathway for them into competitive yacht racing.
