Melleray/Glen Rovers 5-18 St Declans Ardmore 0-13
At Melleray/Glen Rovers new pitch on Sunday morning, the home side produced a dominant display in defeating Ardmore by 20 points in the Western Junior C Hurling Championship.
The pitch is named Páirc Uí Ráilin, in memory of Michael Rawlins who was Treasurer of the club for over 50 years.
The strong wind across the pitch had a major bearing on the game, with scoring low in the first half. Glen Rovers led at the break by 0-9 to 0-5, but in reality they should have been much further ahead as they dominated exchanges over much of the field and missed a number of goal chances.
The second half resulted in a much better ex*****on of chances by the home side, with PJ Kiely and Anthony Browne raising two green flags each, and Dan Leahy chipping in with another goal. In the end it was a comfortable victory on a scoreline of 5-18 to 0-13.
A very good crowd attended the game to cheer on the home side, and Melleray/Glen Rovers now meet Ballysaggart in the quarter finals of the Championship next weekend.
