Setting a gold standard
This past weekend, our team proudly represented GM Taekwon-Do on the international stage, competing against 83 clubs from 12 countries. We finished in 13th place overall, bringing home an impressive medal tally of 5 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze.
While our overall position and gold medal count are slightly down on previous years, this reflects the exceptionally high calibre of international competition, as well as an important transition within our own club. We are currently very top-heavy, with a growing number of newly promoted black belts and red belts stepping into elite divisions. These are challenging categories, and this experience is part of the process—we now need to grow into them.
There were outstanding performances throughout the weekend, and the attitude, determination, and skill shown by our competitors provide a strong foundation to build on. These efforts must now act as a driving force as we continue to push standards even higher across the club.
A huge congratulations to all of our athletes for their commitment and performances, and a sincere thank you to the parents for their continued support. Your encouragement and presence make a real difference, and it does not go unnoticed.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to our umpires, ring assistants, and coaches who generously gave their time and energy over the weekend, as well as the group of parents who supported me throughout—your help is greatly appreciated.
This competition, and many of the standout performances within it, should act as a reset point for everyone in the club. Parental support in helping to push standards remains crucial, and I really valued the conversations I had with many parents over the weekend—especially those I don’t often get the chance to speak with.
As many of you know, I will always look for more—from our athletes, our umpires, and our young coaches coming through. Most importantly, I will always look for more from myself in how I support and develop every member of our club.
The positivity seen across many areas this weekend now becomes our catalyst. It’s time to reset standards, reset attitudes, and focus fully on the journey ahead as we build towards upcoming gradings and competitions.
Thank you again for the fantastic support.
