As you all will have noticed in recent days a team from Coyle Pitch Dimensions have moved in to begin our latest set of works at Finn Valley AC.

Over the coming weeks new pole vault, steeplechase and javelin areas are being added to the Patsy McGonagle Track while a new hammer throwing cage will also be installed.

The 400m track itself was last upgraded and dedicated to Patsy McGonagle back in 2011, improving on the previous tartan surface.

These works also compliment a series of upgrades Finn Valley Centre and the campus generally, including our new Padel100 courts, refurbishing the outdoor changing rooms and toilet block and a full geothermal installation in the centre.

Brian Harvey and Cora Harvey from the Finn Valley AC Fit4Life group who ran in the Budapest half marathon this morning.

With a total of 30,000 runners the race was held in bright sunshine and temperatures of around 24 degrees along the river Danube.

Due to popular demand, an extra class for the Athletics for Children with Autism programme at Finn Valley AC has been added.

The additional class will take place on Wednesdays from 5.30-6.10pm in the hall Finn Valley Centre.

Great international experience for Finn Valley AC athlete Lauren Callaghan yesterday at the iconic Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Lauren competed in the prestigious ISTAF meeting, going to a best of 6.24m to finish eighth in the long jump.

Lauren also punched in a 6.16m leap in a storied stadium that reeks of athletics history, going all the way back to the 1936 Olympics and the four golds of Jesse Owens - including one in the same long jump pit.

A great piece of experience to pull the curtain down on a fine season for Lauren.

This morning in London, Arlene Crossan clocked 58.50 seconds over the 400m hurdles at the Stratford Speed GP.

Some of the Finn Valley AC Fit3Life crew who competed at the Donegal Half Marathon today.

Don’t forget that a new 8-week Couch to 5k programme with the Finn Valley AC Fit4Life group will begin on Monday evening, August 31.

The group will meet at the Finn Valley Centre for 7.30pm and the sessions are led by Finn Valley AC Fit4Life coach Brendan Patton.

Finn Valley AC athlete Ceola McGlinchey won silver in the U13 pentathlon at the Ulster Combined Events Championships.

In her first ever combined events, Ceola scored 2132 points to take second spot.

Ceola threw a 6.38m shot and jumped a 4.36m long jump. Ceola clocked 12.77 for the 70m hurdles and got over a 1.39m high jump before going 2:49.74 in the 800m.

Well done, Ceola!
