Our thanks to all those who visited Galley Head Lighthouse today for our Open Day.

Thank you to Gerald, Meria and Ian for their support as always.

Thanks to the Commissioners of Irish Lights for their support of our Open Day.

Thanks to John The Butcher for providing the shuttle bus.

Thanks to our own club members for their help today and in the lead up to the event; to Margaret and Donal for the trojan work they put in to this event, to Eleanor Hayes for the milk, to those who set up the chairs, tables & marquee, to the bakers, the car park attendants, the tower attendants, the tea makers, those at the entrance to the tower, to those who helped with the clean up and to everyone else who helped - thank you.

Galley Head Lighthouse Open Day
📅 Today! Sunday, September 6th
⏰ 12pm - 5pm

🆓 Entry to the lighthouse grounds is free of charge
🎟️ Entry to lighthouse tower is €8 per person (€15 for 2)

❗ The lighthouse tower is restricted to those over 10 for health and safety reasons.

💬 Gerald Butler will deliver his infamous talks in the Gas House throughout the day.

☕ Tea, coffee and refreshments available to purchase on the grounds.

🅿️ Parking will be available in nearby fields which are a short walk to the lighthouse grounds.
🚌 A shuttle bus will also operate throughout the day between the lighthouse grounds and the car park.

It was an early start for some this morning as rowers made the journey to Kenmare for the Kenmare Coastal Scull Endurance Regatta.

Sinéad O'Donovan and Katie Hayes competed in the Women’s Open Double (CW2x) and finished in 4th in a time of 20:19.0 over the 4km course.

Ciara Rahilly, Edel O'Donovan, Aisling Feen and Mary Anne McCarthy were coxed by Mike Feen in the Women’s Open Quad (CW4x+) and finished in 2nd place with a time of 17:59.9.

Edel O'Donovan, Donna Burke, Aoife McAuley and Louise Brazier Scannell were coxed by Mike Feen in the Masters Women’s Quad who finished in 1st place with a time of 9:37.0.

Barry Hooper competed in the Open Men’s Single (CM1x) finishing in 8th place with a time of 18:44.

John Harrington competed in the Masters Men’s Single and finished in 2nd place with a time of 9:18.8.

Finally, the Masters Men’s Double crew of John and Micheál Harrington finished in 1st place with a time of 9:09.2.

Well done to all involved.

Join us at Galley Head Lighthouse on Sunday, September 6th for our Open Day.

The lighthouse grounds will be open from 12pm until 5pm and are free of charge to explore.

Access to the lighthouse tower is €8 per person (or 2 for €15) and is restricted to those over the age of 10 for health and safety reasons.

Parking will be available in nearby fields which are a short walk from the lighthouse grounds. A shuttle bus will also be in operation.

Attendant Lightkeeper Gerald Butler will be on hand to deliver his infamous talks in the Gas House during the day.
