The Cavan Pool Association is inviting players aged 16 and over to take part in our 2027 Cavan Pool Trials. Whether you're an experienced player or looking to test yourself against the county's best, this is your chance to earn a place on the Cavan team travelling to Killarney in May 2027.
📍 Venue: Cue Action, Cavan, 10AM Start.
📅 See the poster below for all trial dates.
💶 Entry Fee: €30 per trial (€25 credited towards your All Irelands bill if you qualify, €5 towards lights).
If you're ready for the challenge, come along, play your best pool, and compete for the honour of representing Cavan.
Please Note: A €20 registration fee is payable by all players wishing to take part in the Cavan trials. This fee must be paid before your first trial to be eligible to compete.

Just a bit more clarity on the team capping.

A team can be made up of any of the following.. or enter a round with 3 of the following.

🎱1 A player, 1 B player, 1 C player
🎱1 A player, 2 C Players
🎱2 B players, 1 C player
🎱1 B player, 2 C Players
🎱3 C players

If this is breached or a team locks in 4 A/B/C players into a round then that frame is forfeit.

A few changes to this season that will be discussed at the AGM on Thursday 10th Sept in the Orchard at 8pm.

Changes
🎱Match format as voted. - 5 singles,2 scotch doubles, 5 singles, 1 scotch trebles, 5 singles. If you oppose this format then please have an alternative for voting on
🎱Removing the pub providing food- slows down the night. Extra expense on the pub on top of the table cost. Extra frames with new format.
🎱Team capping - for the longevity of the league and to avoid teams stacking. If all teams abide by the capping rules then we should have an even league. See photo attached
🎱Play each team once - luck of the draw who you play at home or away. Fixtures generator randomly picks this. Every pub will have an equal amount of home/away games, depending on league entries
🎱Blind draw - as we only play each team once, it’s fairer to make it a blind draw each round instead of the away team being able to see the home team order.
🎱45 second shot clock is compulsory every frame. The shot clock is available on the new league app.
🎱At the end of league, 1st and 2nd straight to semi final. 3rd - 6th place into pre lim with 3rd and 4th getting home advantage. Semi finals are 2 legs. Final in neutral venue.
🎱Plate contested between 7th down.
🎱Digital match card and live scores app- we are going paperless this season so all captains must be present at the AGM to learn how to do the online match card.
🎱 last man standing fundraiser to purchase a new league cup, pairs cup, fund the new interleague team.
🎱 the best 9-12 players will represent Cavan pool league in a regional interleague competition where fixtures will take place one Sunday a month.
