Today, we were delighted to welcome Lord Mayor Damian Boylan to SMGS. He was greeted by our Student Council and Meitheal group and addressed our incoming First Years. He gave some inspirational words to our 1st year students, outlining the theme for his year as Lord Mayor - “Be Sound”. Not only is Mr. Boylan our Lord Mayor, we are proud to call him a Blarney man and parent of past pupils in SMGS. The students would also like to thank the Lady Mayoress for the no homework for our 1st years! We want to wish Mr. Boylan the best of luck for the rest of his year as Lord Mayor.

Double Success for SMGS students!

There was double cause for celebration at SMGS this week as two of our students were recognised for their outstanding results in Junior Cycle Wood Technology 2025, presented by the Techno Teachers Association.

A massive congratulations goes to Ryan O' Dwyer, who was awarded 1st place in Ireland in Wood Technology — an outstanding national achievement. Ryan’s success is a wonderful reflection of his skill, dedication and hard work throughout the 3 years. He was taught by Mr Peter French, whose guidance and encouragement, undoubtedly played an important role in Ryan’s achievement.

We also extend our congratulations to Lexi Nagle, who achieved an impressive joint 5th place in the same exam. Lexi’s achievement is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to her commitment and ability in the subject. She was taught by Mr. Conor Forde.

These awards are a fantastic recognition of the talent and dedication of our students and teachers. We are incredibly proud of both Ryan and Lexi and their achievements at national level. They were presented the awards by Principal Damien Moloney and their teacher.
Well done to you both!

A huge warm SMGS welcome to our new incoming First Years. It was lovely to see all the new faces and watch you settle into their new school with the help of their Year Head Ms. Meade, Class Tutors, SNAs and Meitheal Leaders.

Students received their journals and lockers and familiarised themselves with the school buildings as well as getting to know their new classmates.

We look forward to welcoming you all back in the morning to meet your new teachers and get a taste for some the subjects on your timetables.

School Book Scheme 2026 - Distribution Details 📚

As you may already know, the Department of Education provide all books and stationery requirements for students in second level education. We are currently organising the vast quantities of book and stationery for the upcoming academic year.

We plan to hold two distribution days for 1st to 6th year students on Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st of August 2026 from 9am to 6pm.

(Note O’Neills PE Gear sale on the same days in GP Area also, also running from 9-6pm)

Full details are outlined below:

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th year students:

Two distribution days

Thursday 20th of August from 9am to 6pm

Friday 21st of August from 9am to 6pm

(2nd Yr-6th Yr) Please note that the person collecting the books will need to know what level (higher or ordinary) your child is taking in Irish, English and Maths.

It is essential that books are collected on these distribution days to ensure that there is no disruption to teaching and learning when the new term begins.

In exceptional circumstances where a parent/guardian cannot make these two distribution days, please contact the distribution organiser Michelle Crotty by email at [email protected]. There will be limited times when we can arrange collection prior to these days outlined above.

Please also ensure you have signed the book scheme agreement available on our website. Link in bio
