The U16 girls played St. Patrick’s in torrential rain on Thursday evening in round 3 of the U16 “B” Championship. With conditions greasy under foot for both teams, Baltinglass’ Lily Monahan found the back of the net in the 3rd minute soon followed by a point from Katie Kelly. St. Patrick’s battled hard & scored 2 points of their own. With play going back & forth with rain lashing down the homeside registered 2 more points, one each from Caoimhe Fitzgerald & Lauren Doyle to lead 1-03 to St. Patrick’s 0-04 at halftime.
The second half began like the 1st with both teams fighting for the ball & eager to win possession. It was the Balto girls who went on a spree scoring four goals on the trot, 2 from Aoife Wall & 1 each from Lauren Mann & Lily Monahan. To their credit the St. Patrick’s girls kept fighting, taking some excellent points & raising the green flag twice. The Baltinglass girls adding another point from Lauren Doyle & rounding off the scoring with a goal from Lily Monahan to give her team the win on a final score of Baltinglass 6-04 St. Patrick’s 2-07. Well done to both teams for a great match & some fine football played despite all the rain!! Baltinglass are now through to the Semi Final where they will play a strong Clara side next Thursday night in Avondale @ 7.15pm
