Blowing a gale at Chapel Road on Sunday, the mighty Wisbech Under 7s put on a brilliant performance against West Norfolk Rugby Club.
Despite playing two halves with a squad of just five against West Norfolk's 12-strong team, the mini warrior in red rose to the challenge. After a warm-up focused on passing, tagging, and defensive structure, they put everything straight into practice.
Defensively, Oscar, Arthur, and Milo were absolute tagging machines, frequently securing 5 or 6 tags in a row to halt the West Norfolk attack. When attacking, Harry and Maxwell carried the ball with great pace and worked into space, creating fantastic scoring opportunities for the team.
Coaches Ed and Nathaniel (standing in) were incredibly pleased with how well the team applied their training. The main focus areas moving forward will be concentrating on what is right in front of them and stepping back inside before running into touch.
Overall, it was a really positive performance from everyone. A massive thank you to the parents for their amazing support on the sidelines. Super proud of you allโwell done, Wisbech U7s!

A bright and breezy Sunday morning set the stage for a spectacular, hard-fought encounter at Chapel Road. The match marked a special occasion for Wisbech, welcoming Ethan on his club debut and celebrating the return of Harley to the squad.
From the opening whistle, Wisbech showed their attacking intent. Reclaiming the kickoff deep in their own 22m, the home side rucked efficiently up to the halfway line before some direct, powerful running broke the Peterborough line for the opening try. The visitors hit back swiftly with a well-deserved score of their own, but Wisbech kept their composure. Driven by relentless support play, solid rucking, and a reliable lineout, Wisbech traded scores with a highly physical Peterborough team in an exciting, end-to-end first half. The half-time highlight was a magnificent, sweeping team try that started deep in the Wisbech half, moving through multiple phases before a direct line punctured the defense right under the posts.
Praised at the break for their clinical handling, the players committed to lifting their defensive intensity for the second half. The Wisbech scrum grew into a completely dominant source of possession, helping secure an early try from the restart. Counter-rucking and ferocious tackling forced errors from the visitors, though a rising penalty count briefly gave Peterborough a foothold to score twice moreโincluding a brilliant finish on their left wing.
Wisbech refused to let up. Taking a quick tap penalty against a disorganized defense to cross the line, the home side finished the match firmly on the front foot. In the final minutes, slick handling outflanked the visitors one last time to seal a fantastic team performance.
It was a phenomenal all-around squad effort, defined by excellent offloading, disruptive counter-rucking, and deadly precision in front of the posts.
