Last weekend saw the latest edition of the PSP Promotions Weekender Comp at 147 Sports with another full house of 128 players don’t part! For the first time the players were split into two comps with 64 in the C Standard & 64 in the D Standard. This seemed a popular move amongst the players, there will be more of these to come in 2027. A huge thank you to all 128 players for a fantastic weekend of pool played in the best and friendliest of spirits. It’s a long weekend for me, I did 28 hours in the club over 2 days but to see everyone able to have plenty to drink, have fun and enjoy their pool without even one crossed word said over the whole weekend makes it worth it. This is the vibe and community feeling I have worked so hard to create over the years and why I have a zero tolerance policy to any trouble makers or people who do not fit within what I want my comps to be!
Onto the pool and we will start with the C Standard. Firstly I was really happy to see the final 4 all being local players. These weekender comps are massively supported from all over the South West but it is always great to see local players getting to the latter stages. Your winner of the C Standard was Carl Wyatt. After not getting through the groups in the Mid C Series the previous weekend ‘Quiet Wyatt’ hit the practice table hard and got his rewards. That’s the best Iv ever seen him play and the most focused, great to see you get the win mate. Runner up was Freddie Winters, a great run from Freddie coming up just short 6-4 in the final but can be proud of your weekend. In my eyes only a matter of time before you win one of these big C Standard comps. Losing semi finalists were John McMackin & Adam Minchin, two more local players doing Wiltshire pool proud. Losing quarter finalists were Mark Lockyer, Callum Lowe, Drew Connolly Evans & Andy Hughes New!
Onto the D Standard and what pleased me about this comp was having two young lads in the final. Your winner was Bristol’s George Way who came through a nervy final frame decider to beat James Wilcox 6-5! Two cracking young players who will surely be moving up the standards rapidly, well done to you both. Losing semi finalists were Mike Lee & John Maloney and losing quarter finalists were Malc Elstone, Declan Burns, Dean Richards & Jimmy Mcdevitt!
There was a plate event for each comp with all 128 players playing on both days! The C Standard plate winner was Mark Mayhew beating Ian Bosworth in the final. The D Standard plate winner was John Ding-Dow beating Robbie Ayres in the final.
The PSP 15 Ball Challenge was up to a massive £108.01 a ball and after a couple of dry breaks Adam Caswell was pulled out and potted 6 balls to take home a cool £648.06!
A big thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great weekend! As always thank you to Lisa Kimber & the team of staff and directors at the 147 for all of their hard work, comp days a real team effort. Thank you to Bryn Rowland for coming down and putting on his cue clinic, great to see so many people having tips done or cue cleaned, Bryn has really become a great asset for the weekender comps! Thank you to our referee Chris Hall who did a long two days officiating it what was his first time with us, you did a great job mate, very proactive. Thank you to Leila Fry who did a great job working the Pint Size Pop Up Shop on Saturday, again first time with us at an event, did a cracking job! Lastly thank you to the wife Rebecca Page for all the running around you did for me over the weekend, it doesn’t go unnoticed!
The next weekender is the 28th & 29th November with almost 50 players already paid up! Get your entry fees in to avoid missing out!
