Ikarus C42A & C42 Bravo
The C42A & C42 Bravo are an innovative, modern, two seat aeroplane that sets the standards in comfort and handling. Developed in Germany by the COMCO-IKARUS company, the aircraft are approved either as a ready to fly microlight through BCARS A8-1 approval, or as kit for home build. Both offer a unique combination of innovative technology and simplicity, creating unequalled
value and performance. The configuration is a high wing, two seat, side by side tri-gear aircraft. The airframe is of aircraft-grade aluminium with a composite cabin and fuselage shell. The impressive power to weight ration and rugged Hydro-pneumatic landing gear contribute to truly STOL (short take off and landing) performance. The aircraft is a well proven trainer, and is ideal for rough field operation. Light wing loading and high lift flaps made for safe approach speeds and remarkably easy landings. Careful attention to drag reduction has given the C42 exceptional range and efficient cruise performance. At 48” (122cm) wide, the comfortable cabin is 10” (25cm) wider than a Cessna 152. Ergonomically designed for ease of pilot and passenger access through dual clamshell doors. The control stick is located on a central console with dual throttles for pilot and co-pilot operation; the flap controls are located overhead and the electric trim controls on the top of the control stick. The instrument panel is hinged and can be tilted backwards. The wing consists of tubular front and rear spars (ribbed and braced) with one piece pre-fabricated GT foil covering. Optional composite contoured wingtips are available as an option. Strong, but light, the wings can be easily folded or removed for transportation and storage. The Rotax four stroke power plant is the industry’s standard for advanced light aircraft and is popular with owners for its low fuel consumption, high time between overhauls and quiet operation. Offering the best in comfort, economy and fun, the aircraft can be flown on floats, skis, and with the doors off – great for flying on barmy sunny evenings! The C42 Bravo model offers even higher levels of performance with numerous enhancements over the C42 A with a 130mm longer cowling design with enhanced aerodynamics, a larger cabin. Integrated, coupled oil/water cooling system via counter-flow heat exchanger. Carburettor preheating with forced direct air via a NACA intake. Ballistic recovery system as standard, giving a higher payload with a MTOW of 472.5kg. A new larger panel design with storage bowls, 20% more space for Avionics with full retention of visibility and an optimised wing root covering. Optional high performance “Beringer” heavy duty brakes also available for training use and very short landings. Cowl flap for in-flight regulation of oil and water temperature. Special lightweight lithium battery – saving 2kg! Approval as glider tug, with capability of towing up to 650kg high performance gliders.
