⚠️IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE - England ⚠️

In light of government today providing greater clarity on the new Covid regulations in England, BASC is now advising members that activities such as wildfowling, deer stalking and rough shooting are allowed as long as certain stringent conditions are met around travel and social distancing.

Those conditions are detailed here: http://orlo.uk/CORONAVIRUS_HUB_MueDm

In line with these conditions, BASC does not consider that driven game shooting or other group shooting activities should take place.

Everyone shooting during the Covid-19 pandemic must consider the impact of their actions on the image and reputation of shooting. We all have a responsibility to comply with Government regulations and guidance, and failure to do so may also place you at risk of a fine and jeopardise your shotgun and firearm certificates.

BASC will continue to update our website and members on this advice in the coming hours.

The recent unseasonably warm and dry weather conditions have made our moors a tinderbox. Due to the high risk of wildfires it is essential that members of the public follow Government instructions and STAY AWAY from the moors over the Easter Weekend.

Coronavirus restrictions have forced National Park authorities and organisations to scale back their workforce, meaning there are fewer boots on the ground to watch over our uplands and our emergency services are already stretched fighting COVID-19.

Gamekeepers and other moorland managers are stepping up their efforts during this time of national crisis and have readied specialist equipment and are experienced to fight in the front line against wildfires.

There have already been several near misses over the past month – where the quick actions of local gamekeepers have prevented wildfires from spreading.

Our hard-pressed emergency services are needed to save lives not tackle wildfires or deal with people flouting COVID-19 restrictions.

It’s that time of year again... moor fires 🔥 and with the increased footfall it’s more important than ever for people to be sensible & not light fires. Please everyone also be extra vigilant and report anything as soon as you can. Our emergency services have enough to deal with already.
