Event Winner Robert Hole:

The Cambridgeshire youth league sailing first event was at cam sailing club last Saturday. It was a glorious sunny day with 1-2 knots of wind - just enough to keep things interesting. Big thanks to the team at Cams for the warm welcome and well organised day. It was great to see lots of new faces, sailors ranged from 8 to 18.

A total of 29 boats meant five starts: Oppies first, then two Topper fleets, followed by ILCA 4 & 6, and finally ILCA 7. Race 1 was a gentle drift around the two-lap course, as the quicker boats weaved their way through the fleet.

Lunch was a highlight, with a great spread from the galley at very reasonable prices. After the break, there was just a touch more wind, still patchy and unpredictable, so the gaps between boats opened and closed throughout the next two races - keeping the racing exciting.

Prize-giving rounded off the day with trophies, chocolate, and plenty of happy (if slightly sunburnt) sailors and supporters. A huge well done to Team Hunts for winning the team prize. Looking forward to the next event at Grafham on 6th June!
