Hmmm. Ever put bread in the toaster, and forgot to push it down? Ever written a crucial email, and forgot to hit send? Ever drawn money out of the hole in the wall, only to forget to grab it? Well, we've done similar. Post Assen fb post. Written, and left in drafts. We thought it was quiet.....
So, we had a big race weekend at Assen in the British Superbike Championship BMW Motorrad UK F900r cup. And what a fab weekend's racing it was ! Joining 2 Strokes Racing team regulars, Liam Vella and Ben Rybicki ( Jordan Ashington couldn't get time off work), were top bloke, Nigel White on a wild card #56, and also, Italian legend, Giovanni Beliossi . 4 bikes were a tight but manageable squeeze in the awning. Team manager Pete and Tony Evans and Phil were with Ben and Gio, with Zack Daley on the spanners with Nigel. Good old Victor Vella looked after Liam. With 4 bikes in the awning, Paul Andersson was on refuel and pit chief duties. Keeping everything under control, was the lovely Donna Marie Evans
So, challenging weather, and tyre choices that could go either way, the fp1 and qualifying times and sessions were anyone's guess. All 4!! Bikes were in Heat Race 1. With a grid of 16 bikes, 2SR riders took 1/4 of the grid... that, is some achievement. With Gio's front end sorted, he was having a great weekend. The crowd, fully got behind Big Nigel, cheering and whistling as he came past. Ben set constant quicker laps, to bring the bike home in the points. Well done Ben.
Saturday night, the team had a trip out for a meal in Assen town centre. With bicycles being the order of the day (and night...), we had a very scenic trip. And some fab food and great company. The bikes were left ready on warmers for the Sunday sprint race....
Sunday morning, it was wet. Very wet. But drying. Another situation that no one knew what was the right tyre choice. If we'd have gone on drys, wets would have been right. On wets, you'd need drys....
So, we went out on Wets all round. Drying conditions would have had Liam and Ben on drys. They'd have both been right up the sharp end; however, all 4 riders came back. We hope the riders that went down are all well on the road to recovery! Sunday afternoon, and all the lads were sat on dry tyres, when the "psychological " rain started. No matter, the lads went out on drys. And what a race it was....
Poor Gio came off on the 1st lap. Whereas the other 3 pushed on. Nigel brought his bike home in 24th (of 29 starters). Ben had a proper race long fight, with him finishing in 20th place, 0.4 of a second behind 19th.
Liam, started the final race in 23rd place. Fighting through the grid, going into the final lap, he was sitting in 14th place. In an amazing, full send, he leapfrogged into 11th, in the final few seconds of the race. What a fantastic move !
With additional team support from Lee Brackstone , Daryn Brackstone , Pete, Ollie, Richard Binnås and Linnea Binnås , with Gary Littlemore and Shane Rybicki helping send the bikes out, we had a great team, all pulling together.
On the Sunday, the team were delighted to meet a young man, Lucas. He was at the races with his family. Young Lucas left sporting Team gear, Team gloves, stickers, and a donation to the smiles charity. Debby Michel, you have a lovely family!
So, whats next? Joel Haire Racing is getting fit for his 2027 BSB season, having joined the local Football and Rugby teams.
And Ben Rybicki racing , well, he's only having a wild card ride this weekend in the National Sportbike Championship, at Donington ! Good luck Ben !!
