Tomorrow, why not come along on our joint ramble with the Wellington Walking Festival? We start at Wellington Railway Station at 10am and will walk to Ironbridge on a route that takes through Lime Kiln Woods, Little Wenlock, Bragger Hill to Coalbrookdale and then to the Wharfage via Dale Coppice. We will return by bus to Wellington. The weather forecast looks fine (🤞) and the walk is around 8 miles. See our website for more details

We headed to Church Stretton two days ago on a warm day with a cooling breeze at the top. The views it offers, well we never get tired of them.

The weather was cooler yesterday for our walk which took in part of the Wales Coast Path, where it has to head up the Dovey estuary. We had views at the start and at the finish and got back in time for a quick visit to the pubs in Machynlleth. 😀

Do you know someone, who is suffering from cancer?

Most of us know of, or have someone amongst our family, friends or colleagues, who is living with this terrifying and cruel disease.

Today I’d like to share a few lines about the charity I am supporting with the 75-mile nonstop hiking challenge I’ll be attempting this coming Friday and Saturday 26th – 27th June.

Lingen Davies Cancer Support is the main charity for cancer support in the Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Mid Wales region. The charity was launched in 1979 by the then mayor of Shrewsbury, Bernard Lingen and local accountant Frank Davies, whose initial aim was to equip a new radiotherapy department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Since then, the charity has helped over 100,000 people suffering from cancer with improved treatment and care.

Lingen Davies has now launched its biggest appeal to date. The Sunflower Appeal is aiming to raise £5million. This will fund a new Chemotherapy Centre in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital. The goal is to open this centre by 2029. This will double the capacity for cancer treatment across our region, meaning patients can access the treatment they need more easily and quickly. So far, the appeal has raised over £1.25million – so it’s a quarter of the way there – but still has a long way to go. Our region desperately needs this new cancer treatment centre, so I hope you will consider donating.

On Saturday the plan is to catch the train to Ruabon, then hop on a bus to Llangollen for our walk, which takes us to Chirk. We have a bit of a climb before lunch but will be rewarded by views, so well worth it! It’s a 7 mile moderate ramble which also takes in Chirk Castle.
One of the main benefits of using public transport for our walks is that we can do linear walks and this one is a cracker. 😀
