A difficult day for both of our senior sides yesterday, but plenty of positives to take into next weekend.
1st XI vs Crossgates United Friends CC
The 1st XI travelled to Crossgates United Friends CC and, after winning the toss, elected to field first.
Wickets fell steadily throughout the innings, with Jordan Richardson and Imaan Ahmad taking one wicket apiece. Jake Watson claimed two wickets, while Steve Dobson produced an excellent spell to finish with four wickets.
Despite the regular breakthroughs, one of the home side's batters proved impossible to dismiss, finding the boundary consistently and helping guide Crossgates to an impressive 259-9 from their 40 overs.
There was also some outstanding work in the field from Imaan Ahmad, who took two superb catches, including a stunning effort that was captured on video.
In reply, we struggled early and lost two wickets in the opening stages. Opener Johnny Cockerill batted superbly, compiling a fine 78 before being dismissed. Useful contributions from Nathan Coates, Imaan Ahmad and Leo Howard kept the chase alive and made the target look achievable, but ultimately we fell short of the total.
2nd XI vs Hundhill Hall CC
The 2nd XI hosted Hundhill Hall CC, with the visitors winning the toss and choosing to field first.
Our batting line-up found runs difficult to come by, with Natasha Rowley top-scoring with 20 as we were bowled out for 85.
Hundhill Hall made light work of the chase, reaching the target in the 17th over. Bradley Howard was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Rhys Howard, Natasha Rowley and Josh Nickerson each claimed one wicket.
A tough day for both teams, but we regroup, learn from it, and go again next week.
