🌊🤿 WHAT A CRACKING END TO THE SEASON! 🤿🌊

Well, we couldn't have asked for a much better day to finish off the season!

It was a tad chilly in the water today 🥶, but the sun was shining, the sea was behaving itself and we had a good 4 metres of visibility on the reef. Not bad at all for our last splash of the year!

It was lovely to have Pete, Andrea and ten-year-old William from join us for the adventure.

I did start to wonder whether I was going to need to get the fishing rod out to drag William out of the water after the first hour! 😂🎣

That boy is definitely part fish! He was having far too much fun to think about getting out.

A brilliant afternoon, lovely company and a cracking way to bring our 2026 snorkelling season to a close.

A huge thank you to everyone who's joined us in the water this year. We've had some fantastic adventures, met some lovely people and made some brilliant memories.

Now it's time to give the wetsuits a wash, hang up the fins and start planning for Easter.

🌊🤿 ONE LAST SPLASH BEFORE WE HANG UP OUR FINS! 🤿🌊

Well, we've finally got a break in the weather! 🎉

After a couple of weeks of the North Sea doing her best to keep us on dry land, we're hoping to squeeze in one last splash tomorrow before we officially call it a day for the season.

Fancy joining us for a final Discover Snorkelling Experience at Beadnell Haven before we pack the wetsuits away for winter?

But don't worry, we're not going to be sitting around twiddling our thumbs all winter. Oh no… Scuba Steve and Ranger Jane are already planning some big things for next season! 👀

🐣 EARLIER START — EASTER SNORKELLING!

If the weather behaves itself, we're hoping to get back in the water at Easter.

There's just one small snag… the North Sea in April isn't exactly tropical! 🥶😂

So we'll be adding oversuits to our existing 5mm wetsuits, giving you that extra layer of warmth for those early-season adventures.

It'll still be a bit nippy, but we'll do our best to keep you comfortable while we explore.

Ever fancied exploring the reef like James Bond? 😂

For experienced snorkellers who've already completed a Discover Snorkelling Experience with us, we'll be introducing guided underwater scooter safaris!

🤿 ADVANCED SNORKELLING — TAKE IT UP A NOTCH!

Already comfortable in the water and fancy learning a few new tricks?

Our PADI Advanced Snorkeller sessions will be available on request throughout the season.

We'll work on techniques including duck diving, self rescue and swimming underwater on a single breath, helping you develop your skills and confidence.

It's a great way to get more out of your snorkelling and discover what you're capable of beneath the surface.

🛟 FANCY BECOMING A SNORKEL GUIDE?

Now here's an opportunity for those of you who really get the snorkelling bug!

If you're an experienced snorkeller aged 18 or over, you could work towards your PADI Snorkel Guide qualification.

There are two ways to do it:

OPTION 1 — BOOK A COURSE

A paid two-day course, extended to three days if you need to complete an up-to-date first aid qualification.

OPTION 2 — JOIN OUR TEAM OVER THE SUMMER

(limited to one or two places)

Volunteer some of your spare time helping with our snorkelling sessions and work towards your qualification without paying a course fee.

The qualification prepares you to lead snorkelling tours, with opportunities to guide voluntarily or commercially in the UK or abroad, subject to local requirements.

Fancy turning your love of snorkelling into something more? This could be right up your street!

⚓ AND YES… SCUBA DIVING COULD BE BACK!

We're also hoping to restart scuba diving instruction next season, and we're looking for TWO TRAINEE DIVEMASTERS to join us.

Just like the Snorkel Guide opportunity, we're planning to offer Divemaster training over the summer in exchange for helping out with our diving and snorkelling sessions.

We're looking for two candidates aged 18 or over who either:

🤿 Already hold a Rescue Diver qualification, or
🤿 Want to train towards that level.

It's a chance to build experience, develop your skills and become part of what we're putting together here on the Northumberland coast.

🌊 WHAT A SEASON… AND WHAT'S COMING NEXT!

Earlier starts, underwater scooters, advanced snorkelling, guide training and hopefully a return to teaching scuba diving.

We've certainly got plenty to keep us busy over winter!

🎥 YESTERDAY'S DISCOVER SNORKELING EXPERIENCE

Here's the video from yesterday's Discover Snorkeling Experience — and while I absolutely love my GoPro, sometimes that super-wide-angle lens isn't quite as helpful as you'd hope!

Yesterday was a perfect example. 😅

What the camera captured really doesn't do justice to the spectacle we witnessed out on the water. So much of the action was happening just a little too far away for the wide-angle lens to really show what was going on.

But that's the thing about wildlife encounters — cameras can record what happened, but they don't always capture the scale, atmosphere or excitement of actually being there.

Yesterday was one of those moments.

From the surface, watching the activity unfolding around us, it was one of those experiences that makes you stop, look around and think:

"Wow… I wish you could see this the way I can."

Unfortunately, my GoPro couldn't! 😂

So here's what it managed to capture — but trust me, the real spectacle was so much better.

Sometimes you really do just have to be there. 🌊🤿🦭

🌊🤿 NOW THAT WAS WORTH GETTING UP EARLY FOR! 🐟🦅

Today's Discover Snorkelling Experience with Sarah and Alex turned out to be one of those mornings that reminds you exactly why we do this.

After the strong winds and rough seas we'd had in the middle of the week, I have to admit we weren't particularly optimistic about today's session.

But oh my word…

It was well worth getting up early! 😂

The Haven was flat calm, the water had cleared to a respectable 3 metres of visibility, and although the temperature is definitely starting to drop as autumn arrives, the sun was shining on us for the whole session. ☀️🌊

But the real stars of today's show were the birds.

As we entered the water, we could see gannets diving at the far end of the reef.

So naturally, we headed in that direction…

And as we swam towards them, we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by a huge shoal of sprats. 🐟🐟🐟

And then the feeding frenzy really got going!

We had:

🦅 Gannets diving into the shoal
🐦 Arctic terns — yes, I know they're supposed to have been long gone by now! 😂
🐦 Sandwich terns
🐦 Razorbills in their eclipse plumage
🖤 Cormorants and shags hunting the sprats

And just to add a bit more to the morning, we even had curlews and oystercatchers flying past.

All of this was happening around us while we were bobbing about in the water watching the whole thing unfold.

Now that's a Discover Snorkelling Experience! 🤿🌊

You can plan your snorkel, check the forecast and watch the wind…

But you can't plan for a wildlife spectacle like that.

Sometimes you just have to get in the water and see what turns up.

And today, the Northumberland coast certainly didn't disappoint.

🌊🤿 A FEW SPACES FOR THE WEEKEND!

After today's pea-soup special at Beadnell Haven, we're keeping our fingers crossed that the visibility sorts itself out — and the forecast is looking much more promising towards the weekend! 🤞🌊

We've currently got the following spaces available:

🤿 FRIDAY 2ND — 9AM

Perfect if you've never snorkelled with us before, or you're already a bit of a water baby and fancy exploring the reef.

🤿 SATURDAY 3RD — 9AM
Discover Snorkelling Experience
Come and have a proper underwater bimble with us and see what the North Sea has decided to reveal!

🏊‍♂️ SUNDAY 4TH — 10AM
Advanced Snorkeller Session
For experienced snorkellers 18+ wanting to take things a little further with duck diving and rescue techniques.

We're keeping everything crossed for some clear water by then.

The sea makes the rules… we just turn up and see what she's got in store! 😂🌊

🌊🤿 A GOOD DAY TO DIVE??
THE NORTH SEA HAS OTHER IDEAS…

Well, the Haven was flat as a millpond today…

Unfortunately, you could see absolutely nothing at all through it! 😂

We had zero visibility at Beadnell Haven today. The sea was beautifully calm, but underneath the surface it was basically pea soup.

That’s the North Sea for you.

You can have a flat-calm sea, sunshine on your back and everything looking perfect from the beach…

Then you stick your face in the water and discover that someone's turned the lights off. 😂

So no snorkelling for us today.

We've had some northerly wind over the past few days which tends to churn things up, you only have to look at the amount of seaweed washed up to get an idea of what's going on underneath.

Looking at the week ahead, things are a little unpredictable, but there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

🤞 Friday, Saturday and Sunday are currently looking good.
So we're keeping everything crossed that the Haven clears itself out and we can get back to what we do best — putting our faces in the sea and seeing what lives down there! 🤿🦀🐟

💙 Sad news from Coquet Island

More heartbreaking news today regarding the pilot whales that stranded on Coquet Island.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue has now confirmed that, sadly, all six of the whales that stranded have died.

The rest of the pod has not been spotted today. Hopefully, they have moved away from the island and back into deeper water, where they belong.

A huge thank you and well done to the team from British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who are still on scene. They are continuing to monitor the area and are using drones to search for any sign of the remaining pod.

It’s a difficult and heartbreaking situation, but their dedication to keeping watch and doing everything possible to help these animals deserves enormous respect. 💙

Pilot whales are incredibly social animals, and seeing a pod in distress like this is particularly difficult for anyone who cares about our marine wildlife.

For those of us who spend our lives around the Northumberland coast, incidents like this are a stark reminder that although the sea can look calm and beautiful from the shore, it remains a wild and sometimes unforgiving place.

Fingers crossed the rest of the pod has made it safely back into deeper water. 🌊🐋
