🏉 Salford City Roosters 38–10 Runcorn Highfield
After five weeks away from competitive action, Runcorn Highfield made the difficult trip to face league leaders Salford City Roosters in challenging conditions, with four players from Chester Gladiators joining the squad as part of the recent merger.
The lads started brightly and, despite the difficult circumstances, managed to stay in the contest for the opening 20 minutes. However, Salford showed exactly why they sit at the top of the league, taking control of the game and finishing the first half strongly to take a 28–0 lead into half-time.
The second half was a much-improved performance from Runcorn. Although Salford remained in control, the lads continued to battle and were rewarded for their efforts with two well-earned tries from Jack Callaghan. David Patterson added the conversion as Runcorn continued to fight right until the final whistle.
Salford eventually ran out 38–10 winners, but there were plenty of positives for Runcorn to take from the afternoon, particularly considering the five-week layoff, tough conditions and the circumstances surrounding the squad.
A huge effort from every player who pulled on the shirt today, including the four Chester lads who made their Runcorn debuts. 👏
We’ll now look forward to welcoming Salford back for the return fixture in our final league game of the season on 12th September.
💚💛 Up the Corn! 🌽
