Spring View vs Runcorn Highfield – Match Report
Runcorn Highfield travelled to Spring View looking to build on last week’s result, but faced a tough challenge against a determined home side who were looking to respond after the previous defeat.
The contest was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, with Spring View getting the better of the scoreboard this time around. Runcorn travelled light, missing their usual half-back options and carrying a few injuries from last week’s game, but the boys showed plenty of character and dug deep throughout.
Despite being under pressure, Runcorn continued to compete and showed the resilience expected from the group. The visitors’ only points of the afternoon came from a brilliant long-range team effort starting from deep inside their own half.
New signing Jack Filkins made an instant impact, bursting down the touchline with pace and drawing the fullback before showing great awareness to find the supporting run of the ever-reliable Big Skip Cal Cairns on the inside. The skipper finished the move off in style, going the distance and grounding the ball under the sticks to get Runcorn on the board.
Spring View produced a top performance and showed great determination and intensity, clearly motivated by the previous week’s result. They controlled the game well and deserved the win on the day.
A frustrating result for Runcorn, but plenty of positives to take from the effort shown, especially given the missing players and injuries carried into the game. The lads stuck together, competed for each other, and never stopped working.
A special shout out to the skipper for leading from the front and continuing to set the standards for the group.
Also, the lads’ "D*ck of the Day" award goes to Luke Cairns , who turned up ill, managed 6 minutes on the pitch, knocked the ball over the line, then had a little too much to say to the referee and found himself spending 10 minutes in the sin bin — a full afternoon’s entertainment packed into a few moments!
Final score: Spring View 30 – 6 Runcorn Highfield
Back to the grind next week — plenty to build on from this one. 💪
