🛹 Why Skateboarding is the Ultimate Sport for Neurodivergent Minds (And Why This Means So Much) 🧠✨
I recently shared my guide with a parent, and their reaction completely overwhelmed me with emotion. Reading through it filled them with so much comfort, understanding, and relief that it filled me with pride. It made me realise that this message needs to reach far beyond just a small circle, it needs to be seen by anyone who needs it.
Over the years, I’ve noticed a huge shift, more and more neurodivergent children and adults are joining skateboarding lessons. Growing up, skaters always seemed a bit "different," but looking back now through a clearer lens of education around Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, it all makes total sense.
I put together a comprehensive guide for schools, parents, and anyone looking into SEND funding or grants. It combines clinical facts with my own personal story.
The Real Talk:
While we often talk about neurodiversity bringing unique strengths or superpowers, the reality is that it isn't like that every single day. The daily journey can be exhausting. Burnout shows up in so many different ways, and it isn't just tough on the individual, it is deeply challenging for the parents, families, and people around them who are trying their best to navigate the process. Skateboarding didn't just give me a hobby, it saved me, helped me process that pent-up energy, built my self-belief, and changed my life. My biggest hope is that this guide offers a ray of light, an opportunity to try something new, and a path for young people to build resilience and truly find themselves.
