Fancy yourself as the squid fishing King/Queen?

Why not join in our Autumnal Squid competition? Running over coming months and kindly supported by the team at Sakura, SRT and Sunset Fishing, we've a great little competition for those squid fishing fanatics amongst you. At just £10 to enter you could walk away with a nice little bundle of squiddy goodies as well as a few pounds in your pocket.

Register in store only, a few bits of info:

- The competition runs until 31st December 2026.
- Only UK shore caught squid count.
- Only rod caught squid accepted.
- Longest squid wins! IMPORTANT- Measurement is of mantle size, not total length of squid.
- Your squid must be clearly pictured against a commercially made measure- Your entry card must also be visible.
- All entries must be sent to Steve Ace via Whatsapp or Reel Fun Fishing via private message at time of capture.
- Prizes for the top 3 largest squid caught during the qualifying period.
- Entries after midnight 31st December 2026 will not count.
- 100% payout of entry monies.
- The organiser (Steve Ace) has final say on any discrepancies/complaints.

Customer Nicholas is no stranger to catching specimens.

Having caught some monster fish over in Norway he's been honing his skills onto a species a bit closer to home of late.

Heading south, to the depths of Cornwall, Nicholas has been chasing gilthead bream in recent seasons. He sent us this picture of a fine 4lb 11oz fish caught on a recent trip.

Mr Ace has been out locally in the Portishead Marina catching some fantastic thick lip mullet on the float.

Fish of 4lb 10oz & 5lb 10oz were persuaded on traditional bread tactics.

If you need any help/tactics for catching these great sport fish come on in & we can recommend you all the tackle & put you on some fish 🎣

Due to factors out of our control we are sadly going to have to reduce all livebait orders in the book for this weekend and will not be taking any additional orders.

Please note, livebait will now only be available after 10:30am tomorrow.

Our team will review bookings tomorrow morning and will make amendments. If you wish to cancel your bait, please send us a pm or call the shop early tomorrow to notify. We don't yet know how much we will have to reduce orders by, but it's likely to be 50% or more.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Frozen baits including black lugworm remain unaffected.

Bait Supply: 19/08/26-24/08/26

As many of you may know, there has been significant challenges in obtaining live bait in recent months. Dropping availability of dug worm, significant issues with farms both in the UK and in Holland and a lack of suppliers have all played their part.

Whilst, like many shops around the UK, we have tried to manage this situation as best we can, this weekend is proving particularly challenging with a key supplier notifying us this morning that they will not have worm available for us. Resultantly, this weekend we will simply not have enough bait for everyone.

Therefore, please note, as a temporary measure we are going to have to limit live worm sales to no more than 1/2lb per customer. Please also note that with immediate effect, until and including Monday next week, we have cut all pre ordered bait to no more than 1/2lb per customer.

We would urge customers who have booked bait for coming days to call us on 01275 848652 to let us know whether you would prefer lugworm or ragworm or would prefer to cancel. We will try to cater for your requests.

Letting customers down on bait is not something we take lightly, we always work incredibly hard to cater for orders. We even dig ourselves at times!

We are hoping that supplies will improve in coming weeks/months as temperatures cool and things get back to normal.

Customer Ian Rogers and family ventured south last week visiting West Bexington. A good days fishing was had finding a lovely mixed bag of fish including gurnards, hounds, scad and congers.

With chesil now starting to really switch on, its worth considering a trip if you have a spare day or two. Black bream are starting to show in better numbers with occasional mackerel shoals passing the beach. Increasingly we are hearing of undulates, gurnards, red mullet and other species showing too.

A reminder, live bait supplies are a bit all over the place at present so we strongly advise booking well in advance by calling 01275 848652.
