Petersfield Rugby football club was formed in 1927. Affiliated to the Hampshire Union in the same year, the club quickly became a focus for both sporting and social activity. PRFC rapidly established a reputation as a highly hospitable venue; a reputation that continues to this day. By 1934 the club was running two teams and gained its first county honour when G.E.Twine was capped to play against

Kent (Hampshire won 6-3). In 1938 the club changed its colours to its well-known scarlet and white hoop. K.Gammon is minuted as having “ bought an additional bath for 1/6d”. The club played on a field at Bell Hill and older members recall driving cattle from the pitch and removing certain offensive deposits before play could commence. The AGM planned for early September 1939 did not take place until August 1946 owing to some unpleasantness with the Boche. Despite the Bell Hill ground being ploughed for the war effort, the first match was played in February 1946. The club affiliated itself to the Rugby Football Union in 1948 and in that year moved to Love Lane. It was now able to get back to running two teams. Post match facilities were provided formerly at the Volunteer Arms (later the Welcome Inn) and then latterly at the Red Lion. The Volunteer Arms backed onto the coal-yard, the manager of which was a Vice-President. The club became very popular as one of the few places with constant hot water. For many years after, the club occupied a back room at the Red Lion in College Street. This used to be a popular place to break the journey for other clubs travelling home to Portsmouth or London. As the club grew, the need was soon recognized to provide a more permanent home in town. In fact plans were well advanced to build a club at love Lane, when the Town Council decided to develop the Penns Place facility. The club moved from playing on three assorted pitches around the town to playing at Penns Place in 1979, and in 1989 Frank Guy, our founder member, officially opened our current clubhouse with a celebratory match between a Petersfield XV and Derek White’s Invitation XV. The club has gone from strength to strength with the move to these playing fields and the development of the Youth Section, and it is proud of the fact that it provides rugby for an age range of 6 to 60. The senior playing strength is some 80 players and there are over 300 Mini, Youth and C**t playing members. Parents, and over 100 non-playing members, including Vice-Presidents, (who are a vital part of our club), make up the rest of the membership which overall, represents a true cross-section of our community.

Petersfield RFC is delighted to announce that Men's Player Sponsorship is now open for the 26/27 season.

Senior men's rugby at the club is in the best place it has ever been. Our 1st XV is competing at the highest level in the club's history. Our 2nd XV is set for a resurgence with exciting new coaching appointments to be announced shortly. The club has successfully recruited some standout new additions to the playing squad. And the use of technology, both in social media and performance analytics, sets us apart from any other grassroots rugby club in the area.

We are looking to have 45+ men's players sponsored ahead of kick-off, a step up on the 34 senior players backed in 24/25 and a target that reflects where the club is heading as we approach our 100th year.

New for 26/27, every Men's Player Sponsor's logo will appear on the back of their sponsored player's training top. Visibility now travels with the player every training night, every fixture and every clubhouse evening, alongside the team sheets, social posts, matchday programmes and digital advertising boards their logo already lives on.

If you would like to back a player, or have one in mind already, drop us a DM.

Last Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting our second Lead The Field Partnerships Evening, welcoming sponsors, members and local businesses to Petersfield RFC.

The evening showcased the progress we’ve made across every area of the club, celebrating last year’s successes while sharing our ambitions for the future.

It also marked the launch of our commercial drive for the 2026/27 campaign as we build towards a landmark year in our history: our centenary season in 2027.

Last year, the club generated record levels of sponsorship revenue. This year, we’re aiming even higher, with partnership opportunities available for businesses and individuals of all sizes. From sponsoring one of our women’s players to pitchside advertising, we can create a package that suits your goals and budget.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be releasing details of our sponsorship opportunities for the season ahead.

If you’d like to be part of Petersfield RFC’s journey towards 100 years of rugby, community and ambition, get in touch. We’d love to start the conversation.

⚠️ TOUCH ’N GO CANCELLED THIS WEEK ⚠️

Unfortunately, there will be no Touch ’N Go session at Penns Place tonight.

Preparations are underway for Petersfield Town’s annual 6-a-side football tournament this weekend, which uses the entirety of the Penns Place playing fields.

With pitches and event infrastructure being set up across the site, there is unfortunately no room available to safely run Touch ’N Go this week.

We’ll be back as normal next week and look forward to seeing everyone then.
