YDP VS CAMBRIDGE!!! ⚪️🔵⚽️🟠⚫️

Last night our new U6s and both U8s teams travelled down to St Ives for friend games against Cambridge Utd.

All games were played to a high level and all teams embraced the opportunity to play against a professional academy and got to experience their set up.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Cambridge Utd for inviting us down to play and see the set up they have down there.

More of our teams have also been invited down in the near future……

YDP hosted Spalding in the noon kick off. A tentative start saw Spalding get behind the defence a couple of times but once YDP found their feet were on top for the rest of the half.Chances were coming and the 5 subs added a bit more direct play. Chris shot from an acute angle to get a deflection in which was the bit of fortune needed. George added a neat finish from a great Archie cross and James was in the right place when the unfortunate keeper spilled the ball. Benny was outstanding in the middle whilst Alessio and Ethan stuck to the task of not letting the skillful girl play. 3-0 at half time with kicking our favourite way to come. Spalding were always going to Start strong and forced a couple of saves out of Matas but the defence of Rowan, Harvey, Jacob and Charlie held strong with Ruben making good recovery runs. After this short period of pressure it was all one way with some great football pinging it out wide to Joe, Archie and Chris who had plenty of space down the flanks. George added a 4th and soon the floodgates opened with Tyler scrambling one in, Blake feeding Tyler for his second goal and Tyler squaring to Blake in a good move. Chris rounded it off to make the score 8-0 with a fantastic solo run and strike. A near perfect performance with some of the switch play exquisite.

After a late cancelled game last week, we turned up to FC Peterborough looking to continue our good form this year. The boys know how we want to play and we started well, looking to press and attack. After some good attacks we found the net however their lineman deemed it offside, and after a few minutes and our boys going to sleep, they found the opener. We then hit back with Aran scoring with his weak foot, which we thought would lead us into half time but they got another just before half time. With a change in tactics at half time we went in however, we could not keep up with the standards we set in our last few games, and we let them dictate the game. After a few mispasses and mistouches, and not giving our defence any break, they got 2 in quick succession.

However we hit back with Tyler after breaking free from their defenders but they got another at the end of the game. The boys were disappointed with the result and the performance, which we will look to improve next week at home.

After having a couple of weeks without a competitive game, YDP Under 10's started slowly, conceding a goal after about a minute - dashing our hopes of 3 clean sheets in a row. However, this seemed to kick YDP into gear and they started to pass the ball quicker and forwards. The half time team talk focussed on passing wide, into the spaces, really thinking about switching play. The team went out for the second half and practised what was asked of them and played some great football again.

MOM - Deo was at his commanding best, keeping his position well and making it so their striker hardly got a touch of the ball

This weekend we travelled away to Boston United who have a brilliant set up and facilities. Both coaches Joe and Owen told the players before the game they wanted to see them express themselves, lots of short sharp passing and that is exactly what they got. Some unbelievable passages of play and great team spirit it was by far the best football we had played all season. Having working on our timing of runs, crossing and finishing it was brilliant to watch that come into play on the pitch. A great Saturday morning for us and a big thanks to Boston United we wish them all the best for the season

The Royals got off to a great start this morning, scoring some great goals and playing some lovely free flowing passing football. The second half they showed a different side to their game and dug in defending well to see the game out well. A great team performance after a week off last week. Once again every player played with great spirit and sportsmanship.

Very frustrating game today for our lads as thats a game they really should’ve got something out of. Everything they’ve done well over the last few weeks in regards of passing, listening to instruction, making good decision, playing with their heads up. They just didnt do today. Couple of incidents that didnt go for them at times. But back to training Monday and really working on the things we didnt do well today.

Hugo 🌟 as he did try to look for the pass and scored a very good individual goal.

Derby day was upon us with the threat of poor weather putting the fixture in doubt. But it held off and the Royal v the blues played out a good game of football, the blues playing the better football against the bibs full of heart and effort. We found ourselves 1-0 down to a wind assisted goal which Matas initially had covered. George nearly equalised hitting the post with a header, Benny was fouled on the edge of the box when clean through with numerous other attacks not quite hitting the target.

Second half saw the blues with improved effort, dominated the half with the better football, Blake forced a great save from the keeper, Harvey hit the bar and several attempts to stab the ball in went straight to the keeper, then an unusual attack saw a fluke goal to go 2-0 down when the wind blew the spinning ball in the net after Matas had saved with his feet. Heads were picked up when Ruben ran through and got the break we needed and at that stage it looked like we would go on to score more, but the wind was taken out of there sails after a free kick was hit under the defensive wall with the Royals strikers quickest to react to Matas save. The ref credited our team who were unlucky to come away with nothing. But credit to the Royals for such stout defending and taking their chances.

Derby day, first ever in YDP history, and the boys came in wanting the win. With a change in formation, we knew it was going to be a tough game but we also knew if we stuck to playing our football we could get a result. And from the get go the boys did what I asked them to do, running up and down, counter pressing and wanting to create chances. We started to see some success but so did YDP blues, but we got the go ahead goal from a beautiful out of the box strike from Jake. With both sides creating chances, Ollie came in to action pulling off some beautiful saves to keep us ahead going into the break.

Half time we made some changes, knowing full well the blues were going to come out looking for that equaliser which they did, applying the pressure and putting us under the cosh. however we defended well, and had some chances on the counter which when Jake fed Ryan, we got the 2nd. After some more pressure, the blues got their goal, and we knew we had to put the pressure back which we did, counter pressing and getting a free kick which after Elliott’s strike got parried into Jake’s path, after following in, we got the 3rd and soon after the Win. A great game, with great football being played by both sides.

YDP U11s Match Report - 20/10/24

YDP came into this game yet again full of confidence! Looking to continue their unbeaten run in the league!

As the game got underway, it was noticeable from minute 1 that YDP were going to have to adapt to a playing style they haven’t come up against this season. Wittering we’re happy to sit in and dig in deep from the first minute. This made the game quite scrappy at times. The football that YDP played was good but in the final third we found it tricky to find the space to create chances with so many back for wittering. Just after halfway in the first half some lovely work down the right from Riley he managed to get a cross away which to YDP delight was turned in to give us the lead.

After Halftime YDP continued to be the aggressors looking after the ball well but again still not making those clear cut chances due to a resilient Wittering defence. The result was never in doubt for YDP it was just a case of trying to break them down more and score more goals. A frustrating game which is credit to Wittering for their game plan but YDP left the ground happier out of the 2 teams.

On a horrible wet and muddy morning the boys and girls looked very confident throughout having been asked before and during the game to keep it short and sharp they executed this to perfection. With a special mention to Oscar Harley and Louie all completing a hatrick. During the second period we asked the players to be unselfish and creating some unbelievable patterns of play the team managed to get everyone on the score sheet after Lexi thumped a free kick into the top corner. Both coaches were very impressed in what was an impressive performance with the players doing exactly what was asked of them. A huge thank you to oundle who themselves are a great little team and all the best for the season! ⚽️💙

The U8 Royals were on the front foot from the start today and despite the difficult conditions played some lovely football throughout. The team certainly had their shooting boots on today, with some great goals being spread throughout the team. The Royals kept their shape and had some lovely passages of play but also were disciplined at the back, keeping their 2nd clean sheet in 3 games. It was pleasing to see the team maintain their high standards of play throughout with some relentless attacking play, they are really coming along this season. Up The Royals!
