📖 "My daughter and I were lucky enough to have Tom all to ourselves for a taster night in the forest giving the evening a warm intimate feel. My daughter who is 14 and autistic had a great time time learning how to tie different knots make tent pegs and put up a shelter, then it was time for tea, baked spuds cooked un the embers. The location was a fabulous piece of private forestry on the outskirts of Oswestry and Tom was a fantastic instructor we would definitely recommend." 📖

For Ages: 8–16
When: Mon 10th – Fri 14th August (9:00am – 5:30pm)
What: Shelter building, campfire safety, navigation, outdoor cooking, and so much more, on the Llanforda Estate. Lunch and snacks are all provided!

What a lovely weekend in Trefonen! ☀️🌲

It was absolutely scorching on Sunday, and we really enjoyed being a part of the Trefonen Hill Walk Family Fun Day. It was fantastic to set up the Woodland Roots Bushcraft Zone, meet some great people, and spend the day chatting about all things bushcraft.

It was great to be a part of the wider Hillwalk Weekend. A final huge congratulations to everyone who took part across the events—including our very own Tom, who persevered and completed the gruelling 16-mile "Across The Cynllaith" walk on Saturday (even if his knees had other ideas by the end!). 🏔️💪

A brilliant weekend out in the woods for our Cook & Camp overnight! 🪵🔥

Chris and Caitlin joined us to learn some traditional camp skills and spend a night out under the tarps. They did a fantastic job working as a team from the word go—harvesting firewood, getting the campfire lit together, and whittling tent pegs to set up their shelter.

While a beef chilli simmered away in the Dutch Oven over the fire embers, they got their A-frame tarp completely pitched and ready for a chilly night.

Later on, we sat by the fire to weave some paracord bracelets, before whittling some marshmallow sticks just in time to toast some s'mores over the coals.

It was great to see them team up, pick up some practical skills, and just enjoy being out in nature. Huge thanks to both of them for being such great campmates!

This isn’t a spectator trip—it’s a hands-on adventure where you’ll:

Woodland Roots is coming to Fun on the Field! 🌲🔥

We are excited to be joining the lineup for the Trefonen Hill Walk weekend. You’ll find us at the Fun on the Field family day on Sunday 24th May!

We’ll be creating a dedicated space for you to try your hand at fire-lighting and master some essential knots. If you're looking for a bit of a chillout spot, come pull up a seat, enjoy the campfire vibe, and grab a s'mores kit.
