Nelson Cricket Club, established in 1861, are one of the founding members of the Lancashire League and are the current record holders for winning more league titles than any other Lancashire League club. Nelson play their home games at Seedhill and in it's long proud history has seen some of Cricket's finest players as their professional. Among these greats have been Steve Waugh, Kapil Dev, Roger

Harper, Collis King, Nathan Hauritz, Joe Scuderi and the famous Learie Constantine. As well as being a successful Cricket club, we also hire out our popular function room on weekends. The 1st XI slipped to third place in the table following defeat at Seedhill on Sunday against new league leaders Accrington.

After winning the toss, Nelson elected to field first on an afternoon that looked likely to be affected by the forecast rain.

Despite an excellent opening spell from Sam Kelly with the new ball, Accrington negotiated the early pressure well on a surface that offered little opportunity for free scoring.

The visitors batted patiently and sensibly throughout their innings, finishing on 176-4 from their 50 overs. Gul Sabir (2-26) and Neil Thompson (2-48) were the pick of the Nelson bowlers, both delivering economical spells.

Nelson faced a challenging chase under increasingly overcast conditions and made a difficult start, slipping to 11-3. The situation worsened when professional and captain Tyler McGladdery was caught at slip, leaving the home side struggling at 21-4. Further wickets reduced Nelson to 31-5 & then 66-7 leaving them with a mountain to climb.

Only Neil Thompson was able to build any significant resistance, finishing unbeaten on 49. However, Nelson were eventually bowled out for 106, falling 70 runs short of their target.

The defeat ended Nelson’s run of four consecutive league victories. Attention now turns to Sunday’s trip to Bacup, where the side will be looking to return to winning ways. Before that, Nelson are back in action on Friday evening with a T20 fixture away at Church 🏏

Nelson secured their first win of the T20 campaign on Friday evening with a victory over Accrington at Seedhill 🏏

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Nelson made a solid start. Following their record breaking partnership at Colne the previous Friday, professional Tyler McGladdery and Lewis Bradley continued their impressive form, adding 60 for the opening wicket.

McGladdery was caught after scoring 32, while Bradley went on to make 40 before being run out. An unbeaten 26 from Hassan Fazal helped Nelson reach 138-4 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Nelson’s bowlers kept Accrington under pressure throughout the innings, restricting the scoring rate and taking wickets at regular intervals.

Hassan Fazal led the attack with figures of 2-29, while Khurram Nazir claimed 1-19. Returning to the side, Harrison Phelan also impressed, taking 1-22 from his allotted overs.

The victory gives Nelson their first points of the group stage campaign. They travel to Church on Friday evening for their next fixture before rounding off the group stage with back to back home games over the following two weeks.
