My walk over the heath today was glorious! I’m one of those people who do better in heat than cold so for me it was a comfortable stroll. Arguably, the wooded areas are some of the coolest places to be right now aside from an airconditioned room - and I know which I prefer!

I hope this greenery and birdsong give you a moment of calm today and act as a reminder to go slow, notice the moment and find a shady spot outdoors to connect with nature.

Where are your favourite outdoor spaces right now?

Taking time to stop and stare at the bluebells today! It’s so easy in the rush of life to think we can get round to things later but nature is a good reminder that everything has its time. Sometimes we have to seize the moment before it’s gone - the bluebells are on their own timeline and are not waiting for when I’m ready to see them. This is true of so much in life, especially the people we love - nobody at the end of their life looks back and regrets they spent too much time with their friends and family. Most often regrets are about missed opportunities, of not taking a chance on something, of always putting your hearts desires last. I’m not suggesting we upend our lives completely but pay regular attention to what matters most and take manageable action. So what’s one small thing you can make space for or say yes to today?

There is always beauty and hope if you look for it. Sometimes it’s harder to find and other times it’s right in your face like sunlight on spring blossom!

Nature is always soothing to the soul for me. In the hardest times there is always something beautiful to see in nature, from a whole landscape to tiny details. It’s why I love my weekly heath walks, seeing the changes week by week and even through the endless bloody rain this year, there was always something special to discover.

The turning of the seasons is lesson in hope and gratitude - things will change, nothing stays the same forever. If times are hard, they will pass; if times are good they too will pass.

Whatever you are going through right now, take a little time to notice what is beautiful and let it fill you with hope and joy - whether that is spring blossom, a smile on a stranger’s face, a window full of patisserie, the curl of steam from a perfect cup of tea, seeing the sky in a rain puddle or the free-wheeling arcs of birds in flight.

What made you light up today?

Did you know that most New Year Resolutions fail by the end of the month?

In this blog I share with you an alternative approach, aligned with seasonal cycles, that helps you set achievable goals for sustainable long-term change and happiness.

This comes from understanding that women's health and wellbeing thrive on self-love and adaptability rather than a punishing bootcamp approach!

Wishing you all a very happy new year!

As much as this is a good time to pause and reflect upon what our long term goals might be and dream of what we would love to be true for this coming year, remember that we are in mid-winter!

So do vision, dream and plan. Make space in your diary for the things you want to be there, make a vision board, write out your goals for the year.

But don’t force yourself into a strict new regime starting tomorrow. Bootcamp leads to burnout.

Give yourself a gentle start to the year, listen in to what you need - undoubtedly plenty of rest will be part of that. Be discerning in how you spend your precious energy and what you give your attention to.

Take small steps in making any changes and allow them to be integrated into your life until they feel as normal as brushing your teeth. Huge reinvention doesn’t tend to last, it’s too much too soon and becomes unsustainable. Let’s not set ourselves up for failure!

My first small step is applying to join a local choir - what’s yours?!

It could be booking yourself some reflexology for example 😉!

Having the perfect boxing day chill time after a brisk seaside walk! Great book, log fire, old friends and lots of cheese!!

Hope wherever you are you are with people you love, have good food to eat and get to unwind in the way that suits you best.

If you’re looking for a good read by a woman who understands life after 40 for women - I recommend Caitlin Moran, More Than A Woman. As a woman on the midlife juggle of motherhood, career and elderly parents myself, this had me giggling with recognition these last few days 😆.
