Do you ever create just for yourself?
I’ve been thinking a lot about how much of what we create is driven by the need for an audience. But some of the most meaningful things I’ve ever made—music, stories, even a novel—were never meant to be shared.
For me, creativity is therapy. It’s about exploring my thoughts, processing emotions, and having a playful conversation with myself. It’s not about being perfect or impressive; it’s about being honest.
I read Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino years ago, and one story inspired me to write an entire novel—one I’ve never shown to anyone. And maybe I never will. Because sometimes the value of creating lies in the process, not the outcome.
So here’s my question for you: What’s something you’ve created that’s just for you? Something that exists simply because it felt good to make it?
