Happy Mother’s Day to our amazing football mums/step mums and grandmas ! ⚽❤️

The early mornings, the muddy kits, the last-minute boot hunts, the lifts to training, the freezing sidelines, the loud cheers from the touchline… you do it all without a second thought.

Behind every young footballer is a mum who’s washing the kit, packing the snacks, remembering the match times, and supporting them every single step of the way.

Today is for celebrating you and everything you do for your boys, your time, your energy, and your endless support doesn’t go unnoticed.

Happy Mother’s Day to the real MVPs of the team. 💐⚽

🔴⚽️ Game Week 2 ⚽️🔴

📍 Craven Park

Westella were the visitors today as the Skirlaugh boys took to the pitch at Craven Park.

Game One

It was a slow start from our boys, with Westella showing more desire early on and a real willingness to be brave in possession. Alex was called into action several times, pulling off a string of smart saves to keep Skirlaugh firmly in the contest.

The best chance of the game fell our way, but we couldn’t quite find the finish and football can be ruthless. Westella struck from long range with a brilliant effort that proved to be the difference, sealing a narrow 1–0 win.

Game Two

What a response.

The second game was the complete opposite and turned into a thriller. Playing with high tempo and real fearlessness, Skirlaugh raced into a commanding 3–0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Jack, Logan and Leo. At that point, it looked like the game was done.

But Westella had other ideas.

Three quick goals swung the momentum and suddenly it was 3–3, leaving the boys needing a big reaction.

That reaction came in style. Ron picked up the ball in midfield and drove forward with purpose. Jack weighted the pass perfectly, Ron held off his defender and calmly rolled the ball home to make it 4–3.

The points were sealed moments later when a clever free kick from Ronny found Jack, who cut the ball back for Logan to smash home and put the result beyond doubt.

Rock solid at the back and absolutely pivotal to everything this Skirlaugh team stands for. A top performance. Well done, Cobes.

👏 Parents’ Player – Alex
The toughest job on the pitch every single week — and he delivers time and time again. Save after save, an absolute monster in goal and a true unsung hero. Outstanding, Alex.

⚽️🔥 Competitive Football is BACK! 🔥⚽️

The Skirlaugh boys kicked off the restart of the season in Group 1 after earning promotion 👏 bringing plenty of excitement (and maybe a few nerves!) for players and parents alike 😅

But nerves? What nerves?! 💪 The boys were dominant from start to finish and came away as worthy winners in both games 🏆🏆

Some of the football on display today was simply sublime ✨⚽️ and as a coaching team, we couldn’t be prouder of the effort, attitude and quality shown 🙌

A MILE! YES, A MILE! Of Burpee broad jumps. Some effort by everyone involved and I can tell you now, worth every penny of sponsor money they draw in.

Thank you to everyone who has supported them, they add on the up and I could not be prouder of them.

Even had it in them to come see the old boy over the line♥️🤗

For their efforts, they'll be going to the Elland Road Tournament in May. It's fully earned and deserved 💙💛

💪🏼⚽😬 COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL IS BACK 😬⚽💪🏼

Finally, back to some league football! The Skirlaugh boys have found themselves moved up to Group 2 after a brilliant season at under 8's.

A few reinforcements to the squad left us optimistic about the tough task away at West Hull Yorkies.

Two really close games, with some brilliant football from both sides, individual brilliance and tenacious battling all over the park.

Goals: Noah 2, Ronny 2, Coby 1, Logan 1, Jack 1.

Assists: Mason 1, Ronny 1.

Today's man of the matches went to Coby and Ronny.

Coby, for me, perfect performance. Simple but effective. Won all his battles, took a touch and played early. Drove forward when he could, made good and effective decisions and scored a good and well deserved goal.

Ronny, slow start but after a stern word, came alive. Fearlessly battled, showed moments of magic in some tight spaces, sat in and covered when defenders got forward and scored 2 of the finest goals you'll ever see at grassroots.

Great to see all 3 new recruits contribute on the opening day, Noah and Jack on the scoresheet and Mason with a vital assist at 2-0 down to get us back in the game.

All in all, a great opening day and onto the next one.

RONNY! Our youngest team member, but what a player. Probably understood the team aspect of the game long before most, has his moments of frustration, but he's learning.

Celebrates others and his teams success far more than any of his individual achievements, because he knows without them, he wouldn't have had the opportunity he's had.

One of our smallest, but full of fight and continues to surprise us week in week out. Well done Ron ♥️🚀

RONNY! Gets it harder than everyone, sorry kid. Covers every blade of grass and gives it all he has for his team every week, no exceptions.

Really taken a leading role in the side this year and wants to drive the team forward, bags of experience at a very young age and is finding it in him to try help and encourage others. Well done Ron ♥️🚀

What a keeper, what a person!

From a shy kid who struggled to open up, to a larger than life character and a monster in the net.

This guy puts himself and his body on the line for his team every single week, and does it with a smile on his face. Completely appreciated by us coaches, his team mates and every parent on the touchline.

Genuinely of my favourite people on the planet, which at 7/8 years old, shows you the nature of this lad. One to cherish whilst we have him, but destined for bigger things than grassroots football. Well done Alex ♥️🚀

AUSTIN! Never misses a beat this kid. Austin takes this award due to the fact he turns up, works hard, and switches on. Austin has shown a great level of information retention this season and tries to implement what he's taught every time he plays. This was rewarded with Austin registering 20 goals for the 24/25 season. Looking forward to what next season brings for this young man. Well done Austin ♥️🚀

LEO! What a monster this kid is. Can do it all, win the ball, carry the ball, find a pass and score goals.

But the reason for this award is due to the maturity he's shown the last 2-3 months. Learned that it's the simple things that make the difference, hes moved away from trying to do it himself to constantly making good decisions, and knowing which areas of the pitch to keep it simple and which areas to express himself. A really good end to a solid season for this kid. Well done Leo ♥️🚀
