Ratio Technology

Ratio Technology Ratio Technology was founded in 2018 by Cambridge Engineers Tom Simpson and Felix Barker. Our aim is to develop ground-breaking drivetrain components.

We’ve set our minds to creating the parts we want to ride on our own bikes. We hope you enjoy them.

What's in the box?

The Ratio SR52X cage - a featherweight upgrade for your SRAM Eagle AXS derailleur.

Barely tipping the scales at 79g, versus the GX's portly 146g.

Buy your new GX derailleur and upgrade to a Ratio cage for the same weight and lower cost than a new X01.

Our cage is optimised for longevity and strength, featuring sealed enduro bearings, oversized jockey wheels, and narrow-wide tooth profile for chain retention.

Visit our website to check out all your drivetrain upgrade options.

If you ride T type, the SR52T cage is our specific cage for you.

All machined in-house in the Lake District, Cumbria.

Drop Dropper lever: Curly-bar rowdiness for everyone!

Will's new 32er is ready for Lake District 'gravel' with an uppy-downy seatpost, actuated seamlessly from his SRAM Apex 12 left-hand lever. Our Drop Dropper lever installs in any SRAM 1x mechanical shifter, taking the place of the front shift paddle. Unlike other bolt-on options, this means Will can drop the post intuitively both from the hoods and from the drops.

The paddle features a ball-nosed machined grip for security in the wettest conditions, with or without gloves.

Plus, we might just consider custom colours... what do you want to see on your setup?

26" is dead - or is it?

There's a lot of hype building around big, bigger, and biggest wheel sizes. We know they don't make sense for everyone, but for Ratio employee Will at least - at 6' 8" (203 cm) tall - 26" wheels always looked a bit silly.

Will's pretty psyched on his new 32" gravel bike, featuring the Ratio Mech and Drop Dropper Lever.

Oh, and that's actually Matt performing the hit and run on Will's steed. He's only medium tall.

Our 5 axis machine gives us a huge amount of design freedom to make more complex parts than would ever be possible in 3 axes.

Using a trunnion on the machine bed, we can tilt and rotate the part to access it from nearly all directions - this opens up smooth 3D forms, multiple pivot axes and weight reliefs.

What should we make next?

Raindrops and reflections on our 3T x Ratio chainrings 😍

This morning these were raw aluminium blocks. We load them into our 3-axis CNC, and within 20 minutes they come out as chainrings. Then we etch! This is the beautiful writing seen on the chainring's circumference.

Next up is anodising. This protects and colours the chainrings, readying them for use on your bike!

Check in again soon for a post-anodising photoshoot 📸

Designing components is only half the story. We machine our products in-house here in the Lakes, which means we can obsess over the details, tweak processes, and generally ensure our parts are designed with manufacturing in mind.

These Drop Dropper Levers used to be machined in three operations on our Brother 3 axis CNC, but we've since moved them to our 5 axis Haas machine - cutting them down to a single operation. For the next batch, we're planning to further improve the work holding to reduce material wastage.

The Ratio SR52 Cage for SRAM 1x Mechanical.

Here, in the allotment just across the yard from the CNC machine we use to produce them, from scratch, in the Lakes.

You can use our derailleur cage:

• To upgrade your SRAM 1x11 Road or 1x11 MTB derailleur to run up to 52t cassettes.

• As a more robust damage replacement for 1x12 SRAM Eagle mechanical derailleur cages.

• To upgrade SRAM 1x11 Road to 1x12, with a Ratio Conversion Kit.

We make versions for SRAM Eagle Drivetrain electronic and SRAM Eagle Transmission, too.

Featuring sealed Enduro bearings for longevity, and narrow-wide jockey wheels to improve chain retention and shifting.

We love the look of this black anodised cage. Get it in silver, too.

Fresh for the .cc show and featured by on ,
this is the totally rad Cotic Jeht Gen3.

Hand-built in the UK and here rocking the Ratio Mech. Configured in its UDH guise with silver and black colourway, it's motivating to see a high-end steel whip designed around high-end mechanical transmission.
