Hole 1 | A Risk & Reward Start

Our course opens with a risk and reward Par 4 — a relatively straightforward hole on a calm day, but one that presents a very different challenge when playing into the wind.

The temptation is to take driver and get as far down the hole as possible, with the brave even able to reach the putting surface. But with Out of Bounds just left of the fairway, a slight misjudgement can quickly lead to three off the tee.

The pear-shaped green is no easier, with two deep bunkers biting into the putting surface and leaving only a narrow entrance. Three further fairway bunkers await a sliced drive, while a grass hollow on the left catches the hooked shot.

The key? An accurately placed tee shot, leaving a straight approach to the pin.

A challenging opening hole that immediately asks you to decide: take it on or lay up? ⛳

🏆 Scratch Open Champion!

Congratulations to Luke Bonser from Consett Golf Club, who won our Scratch Open on Saturday with a fantastic performance in some very tricky conditions.

Luke posted rounds of 70 and 72 to finish seven shots clear and claim the title.

Well done too to our own Cameron Wallace and Mark Davies, who both put in excellent performances to finish just behind Luke.

A huge thank you to everyone who played and battled through the wind — the conditions certainly provided a proper test of links golf!

We’ve seen everyone posting photos of themselves in the 80s using AI… well, we’re going one step further! 😄

Instead, we’re taking a look way back at Hartlepool Golf Club in the 1960s.

Here are some fantastic photos of our old clubhouse, from before the current clubhouse was built, along with a plan of the course as it was at the time.

And there’s an interesting bit of history to spot…

The old clubhouse was situated the other side of the dunes behind our 16th green on top of the embankment, with a couple of holes actually playing on that side of the dune too!

It’s amazing to see how much the course and club have changed over the years — and these old photos give us a fascinating glimpse into Hartlepool’s past.

⛳ The Par 5s at Hartlepool Golf Club

There are just two Par 5s on the course — the 2nd and the 17th — with a long stretch of golf between them.

Both holes present a similar challenge, with out of bounds running all the way down the left-hand side, making accuracy off the tee particularly important, however one is a dogleg right and the other a dogleg left.

But get your tee shot away safely and both offer a genuine birdie opportunity for those willing to attack them. 🏌️‍♂️
